Racing Incidents

ANBIORN (C Alford, drawn 5) was inconvenienced when LE CHOCOLAT (Mohit Singh, drawn 6) jumped awkwardly ‘inwards’ from the gates.

STILING VEIL (Vinay Jaiswal) was slow to begin.

The Stipendiary Stewards enquired into the running of b c ANBIORN, trained by Mr. Vijay Singh and ridden by Jockey C Alford. Tr. Vijay Singh stated that he had instructed the rider to place his charge in 4th or 5th position in the early and
middle stages of the race as he was of the opinion that he needed to give these instructions as the colt was now running
over a longer distance as opposed to its previous race “its maiden run” where it raced from the front. He continued by
expressing his satisfaction that the rider had made every attempt to ride to his instructions and with regard to the corrective measures taken by the jockey to prevent the horse from drifting to the outer rail on entering the straight, he was of the opinion that the rider would best be able to explain the measures he took. Jockey C Alford when questioned corroborated the trainer’s instructions and stated that in his endeavour to follow the instructions he had to check his mount on more than one occasion during the early stages as the pace of the race had slowed down. Since he was now committed to that position he had no alternative but to hope that the pace would quicken which unfortunately did not happen. By this time his mount was now inclined to hang ‘out’ despite his best efforts to keep it balanced. On entering the straight he continued to use both hands and his body weight to control the outer drift. When queried as to why he did not use the whip as a recourse he stated that he continued to use both hands to control his mount as he did not want to break its momentum by reaching for the whip as it would have entailed him having to change his whip hand which may have encouraged the colt to duck “out”. He continued by stating that he had ridden the colt to advantage throughout the final stages of the race and requested the Stipendiary Stewards to observe its previous run i.e., Race No. 54 so that they would better understand the behaviour of the colt.

The Stipendiary Stewards, after repeatedly viewing the CCTV replay of the races, taking into the consideration the views expressed by the trainer and jockey were satisfied that no Rules of Racing were breached. However, they advised Tr. Vijay Singh that in future he should be more fluid in his instructions to his riders so that they are not tied down to a set manner as the circumstances of the race may change during the running. Further, he should take corrective measures on the colt before accepting with it again.

TOMBSTONE (P Trevor) finished off the race detached from the field. Tr. Manvendra Singh was informed not to accept with his charge until it was capable of a better performance.

The Veterinary Officer reported that STILING VEIL (Vinay Jaiswal) sustained a cut injury on its right hind.
