Racing Incidents

ch c ASHWAMEGH (App P Tejeshwar) was extremely fractious inside its stall, repeatedly reared up and eventually got stuck in the  gates.  On  veterinary examination  the  colt  was found to have sustained cut injuries on both fore. Under the circumstances, the colt was permitted to be withdrawn before coming under Starter’s orders.

The starting stall certificate has been revoked by the Starter.

MORESCO (B Mahesh) was fractious in its stall.

THE INDICATOR (Nikhil Naidu) which was fractious in its stall was slow to begin.

Jockey Jugnu Gurung, the rider of ABENAKI, was severely reprimanded for riding an injudicious race in that soon after the start he failed to exercise proper control over his mount thereby allowing it to take an unduly long lead resulting in the mare having nothing much to offer during the final stages of the race.

Mr. H S Bath and Jockey Nikhil Naidu, the trainer  and  rider of  ch c THE  INDICATOR,  when afforded an opportunity to explain the running and riding of the colt, the Jockey stated that :-
a)    He was instructed to place his mount  in 3rd/4th position after  taking a  good  jump  and to do his best in the straight.
b)    The colt was playing up in its stall.
c)    The colt took a slow jump losing approximately 3 – 4  lengths at the  start,  therefore,  on jumping out from the gates he could  not place his  mount  and be up  with the field as was instructed during the initial stages of the race.
d)    However, he gave every chance to the colt and rode out to his best during the  final stages of the race.

Tr. H S Bath stated that “my instructions were to him to sit  third  or fourth as  he was drawn six.  I  told  him  to  try  to  get  him  in,  not  to  travel  wide   and   do   his   best   in   the straight as he has good turn of foot. When I asked him why he sat last, he said  as the  horse  was playing up and they put the hood on him he jumped bit slow.  I told him as in a mile race  he  should   have   pushed   him   in   the   early   part   to   hold   his   position   and   then   sit. In my opinion he left too much for the horse to do in the straight”.

The Stipendiary Steward shall continue the enquiry in  this  matter.
