Racing Incidents

This Race Has Been Declared Null & Void.

In the process of being backed in, ZAAGROS (A.Ashhad Asbar, dr.8) damaged her stall. As per the Rules, ZAAGROS was loaded in the outside draw.

As the start was given, PROVIDENCE (P.Trevor, dr.9) was observed to jump out slowly, losing considerable ground.

At the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, a Steward’s Enquiry was held in this race since, when the start was given only the left flap of Stall No.9 opened thereby putting PROVIDENCE at a major disadvantage in the race.

An objection was lodged by Mr.Zadmal Singh, trainer of PROVIDENCE stating that the gate of PROVIDENCE (P.Trevor, dr.9) opened only half and stalled his filly, leaving her double distance behind and  the filly did not get a fair chance to participate in the race. Had it not been for this incident, his filly would have definitely finished on board.

The Stewards having heard the Starter and the Stipendiary Stewards and having viewed the video recording of the start of the race,  came to the conclusion that the gate of PROVIDENCE had failed to open fully  and therefore a fair start was not effected in this race. Therefore, considering the Rules of Racing for a fair start, the Stewards decided to declare the race Null and Void.

After the races the Stewards enquired in detail about the start. The Asst.Starter, when questioned about the above incident, said that it was only after the race was over and he saw the replay that he realized that ZAAGROS had also damaged the adjoining stall i.e. No.9 due to which there was a malfunction and the right flap of Stall No.9 did not open as a consequence of which PROVIDENCE (P.Trevor) lost ground. Had he noticed the incident as the start was given, he would have sounded the siren for a false start and recalled the horses. However, not having seen the closed gate at the time of the start, he believed that PROVIDENCE had taken a slow jump and been left.

Further investigations revealed that the Technician of the Starting Gate had noticed that the fin holding the two springs connecting Stall No.8 and Stall No.9 was damaged and therefore the gates of both these stalls would not open and  he had conveyed this message to the Starter who was to start that race. However, the Starter misunderstood the message to mean that only Stall No.8 was damaged and since the horse drawn-8 had already been shifted to the extreme outside, he gave the start without checking Stall No.9. Both the Starters admitted that there was an error on their part and assured the Stewards that preventive measures would be taken to ensure that the above incident does not recur in the future.
