By Aravind | 21-Jul-2019Hats off to Pady and his team!! Well Connected cleverly connected winning post at the last stride to take this summer Derby. It was well judged race ridden by David Allan. I request Punters not to keep this race as yardstick for future races when this same set of horses going to meet. Coz of rain and underfoot condition no one has tried or put any efforts atleast to fill the frame. It was all the way by Impavid and only Well connected moved to challange if we watch video we can understand that rest of the runners decided also ran catogary from word go.
Any how win s a win. Congratulation to all concerned.

24-Jul-2019If we watch the race very carefully it was more of a strategically won race rather than anything wrong by Sandesh. We need to understand that in those conditions the best option for Impavid was to hit the front and keep going as he is not too good to come off the pace. What Paddy did is he set up Knight Templer to chase Impavid. Because of this Sandesh had no time or option to give it a breather. When he had been challenged by Well Connected he was out of steam. Provided he wouldn't have been chased by such a hot pursuit by Knight Templer and he had a moment to give his horse a breather the result could have been reverse. So it was strategy of Paddy that paid of more than failure of Sandesh. With any other jockey in same scenario it would have made no difference

23-Jul-2019In my opinion, Sandesh rode a terrific race despite the limitations of his mount. He maintained a steady pace that suited his mount and broke clear in the straight. He just found one better in Well Connected and David Allan. Though many felt that this race had come too early for her, Well Connected is a mature specimen physically and temparamentally and this she had demonstrated in no uncertain terms by her show in the Fillies Trial. She had run aggressively throughout and had responded brilliantly when popped the question. Here she showed her never say die spirit and got up in the nick of time despite floundering on the slushy track. Knight Templar ran one hell of a race despite looking babyish and has lots of scope for improvement.

22-Jul-2019Congrats to well connect team and bad luck for impavid team, because of the mistake to keep the horse as front runner, in such a big event one should follow other horse to judge and over take A small mistake the cup is gone from impavid team.

22-Jul-2019In my opinion Sandesh rode a terrific race to get so close despite the limitations of his mount. He maintained just the right pace to suit his mount and broke away on entering the straingt. He just came across one better in Well Connected and David Allan. The filly is a mature specimen physically as well as temparamentally which she had shown in the Fillies Trial itself despite that being just her second outing. Knight Templar ran a hell of a race depite being babyish and has lot of scope to develop.

22-Jul-2019Srinath should have been riding Impravid, maybe it would have been a different story ! Sandesh does not have the experience or ice cool nerves needed In BIG races like Srinath does..
Sandesh is ok for handicap races. Power packed finish is sadly lacking!

22-Jul-2019If you watch the reply , Impavid clearly passed the Knight Tampler in 200 mtr to finish. Zervan was fighting till Well connected passed him , then Zervan dropped the ride by knowing its done. Still Knight Tamper got close to Imavid again without any effort. This shows the efforts of Impavid in the final stretch and revels the mystery . It deserve to be the sport of Kings , so only King can dream the big.

22-Jul-2019Impavid was ridden by Sandesh the best he could give as the underfoot conditions worsened due to rain. Impavid is free front running horse and the hockey had no option except to hit the front and so he had to take the railings which was pounded by horses who had taken part in the earlier races. Due to the rain the underfoot conditions in the railings would have worsened. The winner had run in rain when it won first. Sandesh was not taking easy in the last 50 metres but the horse was slackening for it's start to finish effort and underfoot conditions taking a toll. The horse was not disgraced in defeat. Maybe the winter classics will throw proper light and the winner likely to be targeted for Mumbai. I have seen over the years trainers struggling to prepare more than one horse in a classic though they have several good horses. An example is that the 3rd placed horse was sent to have a feel of the race and was not prepared for this Derby. The trainer concentrated on the winner. In view of the rain except the winner and runner , the rest appeared to go through the motion. The third placed had the breeding credentials and an impressive win and maybe the trainer took more interest in the winner.

22-Jul-2019In my post and review of derby I left with only two choices to pick a winner 1) Impavid 2) Well Connected and I gave preference to Impavid. Lost narrowly, so accepted the defeat with grace as I don’t believe in after the race blame game. My congratulations to winning team of Well Connected and so as to all those who fancied and played Well Connected and to those who lay Impavid.
My special thanks to Arsenal who analysed the race well and mentioned in detail about class factor. This bunch of derby contender was far average and think many new youngsters will come in picture by the time Indian derby and Invitation races held.

22-Jul-2019Well connect deserve to be the champion for the day, David judged the race perfectly if you see in the last 300mts he knew the horse would respond gave a couple of crackers and sat down to push towards a long neck WIN no regrets IMPAVID gave his best on pillar to post but i felt sandesh went easy in the last 50mts that might be the cause of failure

21-Jul-2019Was it just a coincidence or otherwise? By reply to a thread under "Hunt for gold and missing you " I have mentioned that the soft going was the key for well connected's win while clearing the maidens, fillies and now THE DERBY. The thread was posted on 24.6.19
