Racing In Pune Starts With A 'storm'?

By Smart-still-poor-punter | 16-Aug-2019

Hi Friends,

I have been watching the Pune race results here closely since Day 1 and find upsets ruling the roost as usual.

'Saltbae' (race no.5), 'Hells Bells' (r.no.7), 'Aquarius' (11), 'Red Fire' (16), 'Princess Annabel' (19), 'My Precious' (22) and 'Abraxas' (33) are some of the bombshells that have already left the punters high and dry.

The just-concluded Bangaluru racing season proved to be quite good for average punters but Mysuru turned out to be a 'tornado'. Same is the case with Pune also with rookie jockeys creating a flutter or two almost on every race day.

Names like K Pranil, P Vinod, A Prakash and Aniket Karande have left the race-goers to wonder if these are the jockeys who are going to hold sway for the reminder of the season too?

While a small percentage of favourites have certainly obliged since the start of the season on July 25, the quality of racing so far doesn't augur well for the future and punters will have to definitely exert more caution before investing their money.

Kolkata, as usual, seems to be a nightmare for hapless punters, who look to make money by hook or cook.

As a whole, the standard of racing appears to have suffered a severe nose dive and that can well be seen by the response and reactions getting posted here these days.

I always bet each race the same amount (1000 each race) whether I win or lose, I never try to cover my losses with over betting or try to bet more when I win. I always have that Lakshman Rekha. When you can't quit racing ,it's better to have a limit line for yourself.  I will never blame bookies, jockeys, owners or trainers or connections blah blah bevause nobody comes to me and beg me to bet in any race.  After all horse racing is gambling and as it happens, a last placed horse can sprout and dash to the winning post on any particular day, because it's an animal not a machine, favourite placed horse might stuck up or feel lame or don't gallop on any day. So  stop whining and bet in a responsibile way. Everybody have a family and it's more important. Be in your limits  all and don't be greed. That's all

Smart Poor punter.... Dude it is evident that you are a follower of favourites. Kindly understand it is the bookmakers who open odds of all horses in a race. And it is us (handicappers) who need to find a horse capable of winning or placing in a bunch. Kindly either start using some brains while handicapping and back what you like or advise is quit betting. People would call Khartoum a fluke winner yesterday but just see, the horse was  4/1 second favourite @58/59 KGS twice under Akshay in BOM. So a win was due. It was just that the booking of Kishore Kadam must've put blinkers on many of us. So we need to open our eyes and select else.

We are not worried about the bookies who aim/plot to loot us.  Bookies are here to do that only.  We should not expect bookies to bring in  bag loads of currency on a daily basis, distribute it to punters and go home empty handed.  They are here to loot us.

One good thing among bookies is that they do not send any invitation to any punter.  They do not ask you to bet 10k, 20k, 50k or more on any horse.  They are insisting on a minimum of 1000/=..  Of course there may be some who insist on a minimum of 2000 bet.

Now, let us see about the punter's attitude.  Let us ignore the case of super rich.  They lose heavily OR they may win heavily.  Not our concern.  But, let us concentraate only on those people who can sustain some losses.  It is these people who make maximum noise.

"Jockey pulled the horse;  they advertised short priced favorite, but went all out on a doosra; the jockey has eaten money; the owner/trainer team has stealthily and silently planned this coup" .

These are some of the comments that we hear too frequently.  Agreed.  This is a cheating den and one or other factor will always work against you, that too when you have bet heavily.

Just less than 8 days!  A man was literally in tears.  He backed 30k at 13/10 on Adjudicate.  Said he was certain that the earlier loss of 22 thousand.on that day will be fully recouped.  But Bushtops won.

Of course yesterday there were spirited betting on Laburnum, Ms Boss, Fleur de lys, patriots day.  All were beaten.

Now, whether x or y or z has cheated you is not the question.  For argument sake, let us agree owners or trainers of the above horses ganged up and ensured that their horses were pulled to lose!  It is OK.  Your bet on Laburnum failed.  On Ms Boss failed.  Punters are justified in losing these two bets.  But, why persist and bet with double vengeance on Fleur de lys and Patriot's day!  If you had fancied those horses, than the simple thing should be to go to the tote, bet 500 or 600 on Fleyr de lys and repeat the exercise on Patriots day.  Have you executed a bond with any bookie that you will bet 10k, 20k etc.  BOOKIES DO NOT INVITE ANYONE TO BET.

So, basically, it is the punter who is at fault.  And, punters apart from betting pay 10% as bribe to avoid/evade GST.  So, I do not think it is right on our part to slam the bookies.  Most of the punters,  educationally are far superior to bookies.  And, they are good business men, engineers etc outside the race course.  But,  when they enter race course, they seem to leave their education, wisdom, or intelligence in their house / office itself.

Thanks to GST, I have stopped betting for win or place.  But, for regular punters it is the same 10% tax.  We can only counsel them to go slow when the trend is tough going.  But, we can not compel them to bet small amount at tote.  So, as long as the punters are determined to bet and are ready to sell their kidneys to fund that betting, there is no point in we asking them to go slow.

Quit race betting?  Absolutely impossible.  One may stop playing rummy,  playing casino games etc.  But racing?  I am not able to quit in spite of being in red.   I do not know about others!

Yesterday the card looked Great and punter friendly at the first glance. But there was an incredible dubious record attached to it. All the favourites belonged to trainers & Jockies who are Anti Punters thus putting a big question mark against them. 1.Sanjay Kolse 2.Mallesh 3.Sanjay Kolse 4.Trevor 5. Lagad 6.Altaf & Sandesh  & 7. Altaf & Sandra again. It was a lucrative double for Sanjay Kolse, Altaf Hussain, Narredus,Poonawallas as Good double lay bets and long shot winners for Adhirajsingh & the Shahs. I had a strong belief that this would most likely happen. But still could not place Bonafied in my Jackpot and came back with a runner up ticket. Yesterday was also the Parsis New Year... What a delicious meal most of the Parsi dominated owners must have had... ????

Written about this more than 18 months ago. We will get only backlash from the no good and in-experienced punters who are in wholesale on these sites.Just one day's stopping of races will benefit a lot to the punters. But no one will do so , even after loosing all they have.

Also written that Mysuru is the GRAVEYARD of Indian horse racing, but just see how addicted punters throng the clubs on race days.

Seeing all this, the wrongdoer's in the clubs create new ways of looting the public. Don't be suprised if the top three riders are the real culprits always ready to do any wrongful acts, as long as they themselves make their crores of ruppes.

@ Ayyarnet

With due respects to you as a veteran punter, I would only like request you to teach other race-goers on the nuances of betting and how to bet here afterwards.

When I read your rejoinder, it gave me a feeling as if you have some secret mantras to bet and that you have been steadily making money over the years? If that's true, you must come forward to share such splendid strategies with fellow race-goers and help them learn 'how to bet in horse racing?'

It's not a question of whether you bet on a 75/100 horse or a 10/1 shot, it's all about whether the horse is allowed to win i.e., run on merits. If a jockey has been instructed to sit in the rear, be it Sandesh or Trevor they will only follow their respective trainers, isn't it?

I fully agree with you that only those who have a regular income should come to racing. But then, who doesn't have a regular income these days? The real problem is that after coming to racing very soon they end up lose everything and struggle not knowing how to give up betting. This is the truth in 90% of the cases.

Regarding rich men and middle-class, racing is for everyone. Those so-called middle-class punters who play only in the tote, continue to do so for decades together. On the other hand, the so-called rich soon get reduced in their financial status and resort to tote betting. However, in most cases it seems to be too late of a realisation.

Let me end this rejoinder reiterating my request to you to teach our punters on how to bet and how to make money in horse racing. If you do that sometimes you may considered for 'Bharat Ratna' next year? All the best Sir.

Friends:

Racing is actually not for Middle class people. Only those people having regular income can afford to play at Races. It is a fact that mischief planning is well executed very often to support Bookmakers and also to su[pport themselves.. But it is the part of the game one should understand before he enters the Race course. Secondly one should understand the concept of Racing how the Book Makers are operating How Racing Program is managed using one or two Races to filter Jackpot Phool Tickets.

First of all one should understand the concept of Racing and admit that all Races are not conducted by merit. It is not possible also. Race club will have to balanceall the people.

People lose money because they do not go home if they win one or two races. They continue to invest their money and finally lose all. So one must learn every thing about Racing before he indulges in betting regularly.

Last week only I had posted that Dashrath does a sincere job. Even if he is unable to win he will try to place the horse. First two days he has placed all his mounts and woin a race on each day. I requested our friends to follow him

Today he won two Races with good odds.

First you must learn how to play and understand the concept.instead of betting on impulse. I heard in UK or Ireland they conduct some sort of training for new entrants how to survive in Horse Racing. Unfortunatel we do not have such program and the clubs are kleast interested in the welfare of punters.

We must have unity among our punters. By distributing notice or putting an Ad in the Race books we must declare one day as RACE BANDH to teach a lesson to the Club

Then only the club will come to terms. We should have a goodtrade union  leader like George Fernandes or Datta Samant to control the Race clubs.

People blindly bet and lose their money. Whewreas rich people bet on selected horses and go home happily. Only poor people only suffer and small amount betting people are the real sufferers

We have eminent tipsters but unfortunately too many cooks spoil a Dinner. If you read all tips you will only get confused.  One should not depend on any one one the contrary must learn himself based on the patrtern of results.

Those who does not have a regular income should not indulge in Racing. They have to look after their family and look alternative ways for generating income.

Once Late  Dr.Ramasway introduced Rs 100/- as entrance ticket to enter the Madras  Race course to prevent all sorts of people to come into the Race course.

Simply blaming the Race clubs also not good because they are in business. They will say nooone forces you to come to the Race Course. We are not born to shape the world.People gets easily addicted and then suffer a lot. It is applicable to all both educated and uneducated rich or poor .  But educated people normally do not cross their boundaries.

We do get information in Horse talk possible winners . But all are not blessed with Android Mobile and read the tips. At chennai I saw people going to toilets and lock themselves to read late tips. Unfortunately  IR publishes late tips after the races are started. We get most of the prominent tipsters viws after the second Race only.

Just one or two days of mischief planned program we can not blame the Racing completely. .  Racing provides an excellent avenue to provide revenue but one must learn it and face the book makers courageously and understand their trics to dupe the public. But ius their daily bread or profession. A butcher having taken job in a butchery can not shed tears that he is gives pain to the goats or animals he is slaughtering. If he sheds tears he is unfit for his job.  I felt sorry to see people betting on odds 75 paise also.  The do it due to ignorance that it is a false favorite and the Horse may not win. They do it on impulse. Like any other trade you have to learn how to bet in Horse Races. Today we have plenty of people to guide. and information gets leaked also. Recent one ARJUNA  and yesterday Sandhesh on Newway we saw in the mobile after the Races are started. Took a chance and reaped benefits.

Regards to all

Now I have come to realize that I can live without betting on horses.  The khujli in me is slowly vanishing and I am feeling confident now.  Brothers. If I can do it so can you. Give up horse race betting totally.  Let GST  rain horsecing become 50% who cares.
