Whether Carried Over Amounts Are Club Revenue?

By Raghavan | 30-Nov-2020

Bangalore Turf Club was adding carried over amount/s without fail in the next race day of the same enter.  Of course, when jackpot pool is carried over, they were taking their own sweet time to add.  I do not think it proper on the part of BTC to postpone indefinitely the c/o jackpot.  But, it seems they are guided by a policy that is never made public regarding jp c/o amount.

For eg, there was 5 lakh+  carried over amount of jackpot on 6/3/20.  That has not been added so far.  Perhaps, they are waiting for normal betting to start (that is racing with spectators and bookies) before decidig on that.  O K.  The reason looks justified.  At least, I can not refute that logic. Though when that normal betting starts and whether they are really going to add that amount is total suspense.

But, what I can not understand is the total silence on the part of BTC to add other c/o amounts.

1. A sum of 63k was c/o in exacta pool (KOL) on 11/3/2020.  And there was KOL race on 24/11/2020.  That amount has not been added.  And tomorrow (1/12/2020) also there is Kolkata race.  My bet they will not add that tomorrow either.

2. Treble pool 4695/- was carried over on 8/3/2020 (Chennai).  That should have been added when Chennai races were held on 20/11/2019.  BTC has mastered the art of playing cat and mouse game.  I do not think they will add in next day's Chenna races.

3. There are several pools that remained unsolved during this month.  Actually there were 12 racing days during this month (double racing on 29/11/2020) and there is c/o amount in all the days.  Of course not in lakhs.  Maximum c/o amount is in exacta pool.   The carried over amount in that pool adds up to more than 2.5 lakhs in about 30 races.  There were c/o amounts in Trinella, forecast, treble & jackpot also during these 12 race days.

BTC was supposed to add that amount during the races at the same center next day.  But, it is maintaining deafenig silence on that aspect.  Absolute negligenc or irresponsibility.

BTC should understand that it is not doing any extra favour to the punters in adding that c/o amount/s.  In fact, the collections in all exotic & multileg pools are very very low and it can attract some higher sales if and when they add the c/o amounts.

But, it seems that the BTC is happily considering that the c/o amount is additional revenue to the club.

saggittarian,

"The decision of the management is final & binding on all".  Right.

This kind of rule is there in all establishment/s.  That is only to ensure the smooth running of establishment.  Otherwise, the management may be forced to knock the doors of Court for each and every matter, silly or serious.

Take for eg, the disposal by stewards in case of an objection by a jockey/trainer in a race.  The stewards will either upheld the objection or overrule it.  And there will be some dissatisfied punter/s whatever may be the decision.  But, it is binding on them to accept such decision.

But, the management can not hide behind such a rule even in matters of supreme indifference, negligence & irresponsibility.  Of course, it may not be justified on our part to question them regarding the carried over amounts during March 2020.  They can very well wait for normalcy to return.  But, there cannot be any jutification on their part to retain the c/o amounts during November 2020 onwards.   The amounts must and should be added to the respective pool in the next race day.

O K.  The club may not be stupid and irresponsible.  It may not account such c/o amount as revenue.  But, they should be fair and reasonable.  Let us hope that they will add all such amounts during December 2020.

Some where in the club rule book(all the turf/racing clubs)  in the country, one of the rule certainly would have mentioned "the management's decision will be final".

In my experience whenever the carried over amounts are included, the percentage of favourites winning is more than 80 per cent. This is as far as Hyderabad is concerned and am not qualified to talk about other centers. Usually classic day races, 1st week these c/o included.

But no one is keeping a watch like you have been, however I don't think this is taken into club's revenue.
