Choices for the last leg of the 4 winter derbies PTR special contest:

This year the fillies are on a level playing field as the gap between the Oaks and the Derby is three weeks instead of the usual two weeks giving them more time to recover.

Lagarde : A big made one paced sort lacking a decisive turn of foot. Has to be ridden with the pace which gives him limited options. Has a tendency to roll out under the whip. Was lucky to win the Derby Bangalore due to an unenterprising ride on Forest Flame. Otherwise the company he has beaten has been either less than top class or under exposed. Likely to be found wanting in a furious fight.

Forest Flame : A hardy type willing to give off her best every time but relatively over exposed. The hard ride in the Oaks is likely to have taken a lot out of her and she is likely to be jaded. Will still try to give her best which I think will not be good enough.

Immortality : A twinkle toed filly possessing all the attributes of a Derby winner. Can be positioned anywhere due to her versatality which gives her more options depending on how the race unfolds or in the case of being boxed. Has shown quantum improvement with every run. She won the Oaks despite a less than ideal ride by PSC. I suspect that is the reason for entrusting her to Suraj. 

Roaring Tiger : A relatively under exposed horse who is showing promise with every run. Has been there without really catching the eye. His run in the Ruia from way back was pretty good. The excessive whipping and the  acceleration at the finish indicated he would prefer it longer. Most likely to be in the thick of it.

Sporting Memories : An improving sort who prefers start to finish tactics. Does he have the class to win? I guess not. The front running sort are always vulnerable as they offer a ready made target for the finishers. Could see a change in riding tactics.

North Star: Too inexperienced to make a fight of it. Yet to traverse a mile and a half. The Derby may have come too soon for him.

Alluring Silver : Has to find 3 lengths over Immortality and Forest Flame although she was bumped at a crucial stage in the Oaks. Does not look to be in contention for the top spot.

Taimur : FInished third in the SI Derby despite being taken out wide in the straight by Successor. His record and striding action does not suggest that he could pose a serious threat to the top contenders.

Ashwa Bravo : Did not acquit himself creditabley when ridden up with the pace in the Golconda Derby over 2400. Finished on fifth from the rear in the Ruia over 2000. Difficult to see him upsetting the applecart of the proven stayers.
