By Raghavan | 24-Sep-2021There is a notice from BTC dated 9th Aug 2021 addressed to Race horse owner's association, trainers association etc that Karnataka Government has informed the club not to conduct racing activities until further orders.
Similarly, there is a notice from Mysore race club dated 17/aug/2021 that as per the advise of Karnataka Government, there will be no racing till further orders from Karnataka Government.
Both orders are more than a month old. When racing has been permitted at Chennai, Hyderabad & Kolkata, I do not see any justification from Karnataka Government to put on hold racing activities.
The pandemic threat is there at Karnataka. So also at Tamilnadu, West Bengal & Telengana. Online betting is also being conducted for races at Austraia, United Kingdom, France &South africa.
I find no justification on the part of Karnataka Government to issue a order virtually banning races indefinitely. Now that Karnataka Government has passed a bill allowing online betting for races, the racing should be allowed with the condition that all safety protocols must be adhered to.
What our great great stewards are doing? Are they simply keeping peacefully quiet awaiting Government orders? Or they are pursuing the case vigorously requesting the Government to permit races but with online betting only?
I do not think that the wordings from the Government, "until further orders" means no racing for years together. There should be meaningful requeest, representation from the club at least once in a fortnight. Same case with RWITC also.
Certainly, the situation at present is not as horrible as it was during April this year.
In view of covid virus 3rd wave threat, they may allow online betting only.
