It appears that the amazing feats of this centre’s premier sprinter - eight-year-old Multitude – has finally been brought to a close by his knowledgeable connections. The Calcutta Champions Sprint Trophy that he lifted on Saturday is the last race that he was destined to run. Owned by Usha Stud farm owner Ameeta Mehra and the renowned Nanda family of western India, the amazing warhorse won 25 of his 44 starts. During his illustrious career, Multitude accumulated a total of Rs 2.63 crores in stake money. His versatility and his courage were his biggest assets. It was his courage that fetched him the runner-up spot behind the indomitable Desert God in the Calcutta Derby of 2016. Sired by Multidimensional out of the mare Haedi, champion trainer Vijay Singh’s ward will always be fondly remembered by the turfites at this centre as a wonder horse who rarely failed while carrying the public purse – a genuine sprinter-cum-miler par excellence. RCTC has planned a worthy farewell and felicitation for this great galloper during the races on Thursday.
