The sad demise of Karan Singh brings back memories of the winners he rode for me and my family when we had horses with Madhu Manglorkar and he used to ride for him especially in Hyderabad. He rode Manglorkar's Makalu to many big race victories at Hyderabad.

He was a pleasant person and gave of his best for the owners he rode for. I do not remember having to reproach him for an indifferent ride or a ride against instructions.

Born in a racing Rajput family from Mohabbat Nagar, he was the son of Takhat Singh, a long time trainer at Delhi. His brothers Bhagat Singh and Shakti Singh were also jockeys, but not of his calibre. He himself was among the top five at all centres and champion at Hyderabad. His dead heat win in Bangalore Derby is one for record books.

May Ishwar grant moksh to his soul
