Subroos Leaves Companions Far Behind

An electrifying turn of foot of Subroos made his seven-furlong target for the Mysore Race Club Cup easy at the Delhi races on Friday. The day was also dominated by the ace Jockey Rajinder-ridden horses Sangreal, Global Spirit and Real Speed, who were favourites in the card of six events. Went-in as a rank outsider Subroos could not have treated himself as the live threat for the other contenders - Exotic Star, Beatrice, Dazzling Flame and Paladin and his awkward position at the top of the curve was also an indication that the way ahead was impossible. Yet, he and his assistance AJ Nilesh had a clever strategy and that proved vital. When Beatrice looked to be streaking into the lead nearing the final furlong, he came with a terrific burst of speed to leave the field dead cold. Ashwa Prabha, who also got into action despite travelling in the mid-bunch, was only able to keep Beatrice further at bay for the runner-up slot. "I am not boasting but the outcome was quite amazing, He thrilled everyone," M Ahsan, trainer of Subroos, told me. "He has come up with every run and seeing him making three in a row barring fall of a jockey in one of his outings, I expected mile events coming his way,” he said. Exotic Star, who had pedigree to be supported over slightly longer trip, was the firm favourite. In spite of being in an unadvantageous stalling position of 13, he made a quick dash but was unable to live up to expectations. Sangeet Charan-trained Blue Lagoon, who had proved in the previous outing that even an apprentice could handle her, found her winning shoes under the guidance of Deepak Kamble Ashish, under whom she had tasted maiden victory at the post pipping vagabond. In the day's opener - Brindavan Garden Plate, she was too good for Real Strong. Assertive, who was alerted to the task late, failed to head out Real Strong for the next best. The Mysore Palace Plate saw Sangreal enabling Rajinder to open his account on the day. The little jockey did not have to sweat out much on Glkobal Spirit in the Lower Division of the Chamundi Hill Plate. Putting the blinker off and seeking the help of tongue-strap paid off dividends for Global Spirit. The younger filly might be able to earn a double. Katmai found the distance sharper behind the winner. The victorious reinman had an armchair ride last. The day witnessed a nail-biting finish in the upper division of the Chamundi Hill Plate in which Game of Talent just managed to ward-off Black Partridge by a whisker. The latter might make amends.
