Optimist Rose Blooms Beyond Compare

With another quadruple within a short span of 17 days of the on-going Delhi racing calander, saddler Magan Singh is on cloud nine. His trainee Rose, Beyond Compare, Optimist and Rabi Kounga have made him stand firm for the title with a huge margin over the fellow professionals. Interestingly, the man whose credentials should also be appreciated for guiding the four was of the visiting jockey Dashrath Singh. It’s also possibly his first quadruple in his career. In the shadow of his victorious wards, the racegoers had almost forgotten the other two events, where the two prominent horses bite the dust - Time & Again and The Rock. Undoubtedly, most people at the racecourse were prepared to follow only the horses appeared in the first paragraph. Their guessing was not let down by the Magan quartet barring confusion about the ups and downs in the odds of Rose and Rabi Kounga. The first-timer Rose, who had been blazing the track since August, was quickest off the block and had not to toil hard en route to victory in the day's opener - Ceremonial Plate. Incidentally, it was the first win for a horse sired by Epicentre at this centre. Rose's mother, Bollinger, who used to perform remarkably well over the longer distances, was also triumphant at the Delhi race course before being retired for the stud. However, the potential of the juvenile proves that with the time coming by she might mature into miler or so but for the time being speed paid off against the much experienced Sparkling Gold. It seemed that the latter is coming out of nervousness after rolling into paddock and taking a stroll on the racetrack during the morning practice session. Tezeeeb, another debutant, looked to be hanging-in slightly before finishing close fourth to Unusual Theme. Though Beyond Compare lifted the day's feature, the senior division of the General Officer In Command Delhi Area Cup, yet it should not be termed as ‘impressive’. The gelding had to do some extra work to get away from Firecracker, who moved prominently towards the closing stages. Charg away was again handled poorly to finish fourth behind Jewel Star (who has been knocking at the door). Sex Bomb, who led narrowly till top of the curve, is waiting for opportunity to come her way. The Mumbai-imported Gloria, who was the main topic of the day's talk, was in shabby condition. A lack of zest for racing saw her toiling hard at the back of the field most of the way. Dashrath Singh had to utilise his experience to make way for his mount Optimist in the lower division of the GOC Delhi Area Cup. Ashwa Shourya, who played the second fiddle before leading till the final furlong, could not resist the force. However, his armchair ride on Rabi Kounga enabled him to register a cent per cent score in which he participated. A runaway win of Magan's trainee may see him completing a treble. Miracle Maker, who opened as a favourite, soon saw himself being neglected and that confused the gathering in the Cavalry Plate. But syed Afsar Shah was fully confident, as it appeared when the huge built and aged son of Razeen pulverised the opposition in the pillar-to-post affair. Ill-luck of The Rock once again brought tears on his eyes when he was made scapegoat by Middle Man ably handled by in-form Sameer Khan.
