Rock Ing Star Gets a Scar on Reputation

Finally, the winning cart of Rock Ing Star has come to a grinding halt at the Delhi race. The unbeaten filly in seven outings in as many starts had to taste defeat in the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Cup on Tuesday. The winner was Red Cat who hails from the yard of Magan Singh (who was the successful saddler of the day with two wins, the other one being Kohinoor Empire). It was the handicap which played pivotal role in the victory of Red Cat. Coming from the mid group, the chestnut horse caught up with the front-runners including Rock Ing Star at the top of the homestretch and looked like a clear winner before Degas, who came with a break-neck speed to spoil the celebration. However, Red Cat succeeded in managing to keep his head ahead of the latter. "As the horse developed a knee problem, I had to call a veterinarian from Hyderabad and he detected a hairline fracture in Red Cat and that might be one of the reason for which he was unable to perform," Magan Singh, trainer of Red cat said. "But after the removal of a cip out of his knee, he got enough time to recuperate and the way he dared Rock Ing Star in the last run was more than an indication of bouncing back to the old form," he said. "Undoubtedly, He is a big-hearted anima," Magan added. The champion filly, Rock Ing Star, who had shown remarkable recovery after a narrow win over Red Cat in the class two, was taking on the top class field over the shorter trip knowing the fact that she had almost escaped a certain defeat. One of the race goers went on saying that since the first classic event of the season - 1000 Guineas is due in the following weeks, she might have been given a barrier trial like other big racing centres instead of sending her out straightaway into racing. Her finishing position (fourth) should be kept aside keeping in view her potential and lack of prominent fillies of her calibre. Vagabond made every one grasping for breath making every post a winning one in the day's opener - the senior division of the Chacha Nehru Plate over six furlongs. Turkish Doll, who was one of the Million race winners last season, made her reappearance on the track at the runner-up berth. She should make amends. The lower division of the Plate was at the mercy of Kohinoor Empire, who followed the suit of the upper division winner. Utilising the benefit of lung-opner over the shorter trip, Dazzling Flame recorded a short-head victory over Paladin, who has now come to hands. The run of Beatrice is best ignored. Assertive came out of the maiden status over the mile-dtstance Bal Diwas Plate. Real Strong, who was ridden out by Rajinder saiani in place of Rajinder, and Katmai, who came from tail-end before finishing close third, should be noted. Subross turned out to be an impressive winner in the day's concluding event - Red Rose Lover Plate. However, most eye-catching performance was of Rawsom. Despite bowing down after taking fly jump and its jockey avoiding a certain fall, the horse completed the race distance in the third place.
