Legendary Hero emerged victorious in the first Juvenile meeting at the Delhi races on Tuesday. Trainer Sangeet Charan celebrated his return to training with a brace after being sidelined for a couple of months. Jockey Rajinder Saini was the other professional to score a double. The Delhi Race Club generally conduct juvenile races ahead of other racing centres. However, this time it had to organise the second event for the youngsters at the National level, as Pune got the opportunity to conduct the first. Sadly, the event failed to attract more than four competitors. Altogether eight juveniles were nominated. And to save the day, a field of four was must apart from one more final entry in some other event to let the racing go by. Like every season, there was curiosity among all to see who was going to be the best. Eventually, It was Legendary Hero who proved his superiority routing the favourite Sparkling Gold. Interestingly, the winner was the lone horse to show maturity in the paddock. The colt took a step behind Sparkling Gold, quickest off the block, initially and soon swung into action to enable his partner S. Amjad Khan to taste first victory after a gap of three years as he had to face suspension on failing to weigh-in. "Thank god! He helped me to keep the head aloft," Deepak Kalra, trainer of Legendary Hero, told me after returning to the winning block. "It’s amazing as a late foal (he is born in May) hardly comes to hands but not only did he work bravely, he also kept his temperament cool throughout the training," Deepak said. Sameer Khan showed his brilliance on about-to-be-retired horse Barchetta in a three-way finish in the Air Headquarter Plate. Travelling far behind the leader Serious Attitude, Barchetta caught up with the former and another fast finishing Black Hawk, who was ridden out poorly, in the nick of time. Following the suite of Sameer, Rajinder Saini displayed his skills on The Dukes. His riding helped the chestnut gelding to pull out a definite defeat from the jaws of Just Like A Woman. Despite snatching the issue from the latter, the gelding drifted alarmingly under the quirt but his quick wise move to change the whipping hand certainly paid off. Later in the concluding event, Saini had an armchair ride on sangeeet-Charan-saddled Ouef Toba, who came out of maiden status while making every post a winning one. Earlier, Apprentice jockey Riazuddin guided Sangeet Charan-trained Splendid Man to cash in on the handicap advantage in the lower division of the Equine Health Plate. The senior division of the plate was at the mercy of Gorgeous Blue.
