Rock Ing Star, Mettalika Win Effortlessly

It is too early to say Rock Ing Star is ruthless and far ahead of the competition with win down under. But, that day is approaching soon. She showed a clean pair of heels in the AB Stud sponsored Fillies Trial Stakes at the races here on Tuesday. The Mukteshwar stud Colts Trial was at the mercy of Mettalika. Interestingly, A Khan-trained winners were ridden to glory by jockey Rajinder. The former completed a quadruple whereas the latter earned a creditable treble. Rajesh Sahgal and Sultan Singh were the proud owners of the victorious duo and a class three winner - Intricate. The horses owned by the renowned figures at the Delhi circuit have always brought laurels for them. However, the last Fillies and Colts Trial Stakes were the exception. Their much acclaimed filly Rock Ing Star (late Rock Star), who had earlier shown her speed while thrashing the field in the country's first Juvenile race just a couple of days before the out-break of equine Influenza/Pyrexia at the Delhi Race Club in October 2008, was in to show her mettle. When she appeared for the Jain Bookmakers Century Million last week, she looked much fresher than ever. Unfortunately, she got a cut injury on her pastron which forced her to opt out in the last minute of the event. But recovery at a greater speed made the owners heave a sigh of relief. She ran exactly a week later with lesser work to showcase a remarkable victory. Her ability was never under scrutiny and so it was, when she broke out first among rest of eight. She soon found the ownermate and the speedy customer Flyby to set a pace for her. After the first curve, she had to fall back further by a couple of places but once she gathered momentum before turning for the homestretch, no one dared to put a brake on her dream. She provided an armchair ride to her partner Rajinder. Ritambhara ran much above expectations to stake a claim for the runner-up berth. However, she had to go through a frivolous objection raised by the third place occupant Mrignainee. Beatrice, who took a sluggish start, ran just a head behind Mrignainee. Rajesh Sahgal and Sultan singh-owned daughter of Greensmith and Scarborough has all the ability a galloper possesses. The compact looking filly has now proved that she has the power to command the field even over the longer trip. Going by the performance, the bred-in-purple filly could have even walked away with the January 27's big purse. Nevertheless, she still has a chance and in fact she should not have any hiccup while scoring in the Sohna Stud Million falling on February 24. Mrignainee, whose passage was blocked by Ritambhara during the closing stages of the "million" race, ran nowhere near that run that too over the favourable extended trip. Beatrice should mature into good stayer. Katmai, who ran fifth, bears watching. Daytonas Beauty's stamina was not properly utilised. The winning quartet of Rock Ing Star also saw their chestnut colt made mincemeat of three (a field of four) in the Mukteshwar Stud Colt Trial Stakes. Mettalika saw a sea change with the support of tongue-strap. He was way off the pace before the final bend of seven furlongs' competition. But once Rajinder started asking for an effort from the colt, he responded spontaneously to romp home at ease. However, under the timing that he crossed the wire is not worthwhile. Sarir, who displaced the long time leader Rawsom at the post, will soon achieve success. Rawsom's speed may help him to score soon. Intricate took revenge on Time Gentlemen in the Potsclose Plate in a facile manner under the guidance of Rajinder. The day's proceedings saw Daring Love registering yet another win in the upper division of the Onnu Onnu Onnu Plate. The last season's Fillies Trial Stakes runner-up filly should be eyeing for third straight win. The Boss showed his power of acceleration in the lower division of the race. The public fancied Supreme Success was poorly handled in the straight. Magan Singh-trained Young Anna came out of the maiden status in a spectacular way in the concluding event - El Johar Plate. The daughter of Annapurna, who herself was a top class local runner, should complete an encore.
