Cute N Cool poured cold water on Captain Planet's plan of completing an encore in the National Research Centre on Equines Cup at the races held here on Tuesday. In a card of six, Shubh Shubh was the lone favourite to prevail as jockey Ram Parvesh, apprentice reinman Irfan Ali and saddler Vikram Singh Parmar shared a brace each respectively. Coincidentally, the two horses trained by Vikram victimized the hot cakes - Wild Wind and Captain Planet. Vikram Singh Parmar-trained bay filly Cute N cool, who unfortunately had an ill-fated luck in the previous outing after planting in the gate, got off quickly with the other companions over the 1,600 metres event. Travelling in the mid group, jockey Parvesh alerted her to the task only after entering into the straight and sitting behind her, the favourite Captain Planet also made the move at the same juncture. But it was the superb handling of Parvesh helped her to keep the latter's challenge at bay by a neck at the wire. Jockey Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who replaced Rajinder on the beaten equine, could have pocketed the class IV feature, if the gelding had got a wake up call at the time of need. Undoubtedly, the bold show may help the Deepak Kalra-owned and trained gelding to make amends. Earlier, Vikram's trainee Silver Peg foiled the start-to-finish bid of one of the two failed hot favourites - Wild Wind by heading her out in the Jaguar Plate. The filly of Western Verse and Raving Beauty should take the credit of win on her own as she only made the apprentice Irfan Ali to let her cross the wire ahead of the public fancied wild Wind. Apparently, the victory came under sufferance. Wild Wind, who was backed to the conclusion, may curse her jockey Rajinder for breaking her strides for piping over his shoulder at the top of the home stretch. Though, the champion rein man toiled hard by going flat out but his experience did not pay any dividend at the end. Where, Silver Peg should be eying for double, Wild wind should take a lesson from this severe defeat. S P Singh-trained, Arctic Mist tasted a long overdue victory in the opener's Sukhoi Plate. The six-year-old mare opened favourite but was soon displaced by Vanilla Sky. The latter took a quick start but was unnecessary forced back to the third place until a small field of five headed into the straight. Vanilla Sky consoled himself by getting the runner up berth. He should soon strike a back. Ishwar Singh-saddled Shubh Shubh proved that how good he is in the present lot of three-year-old horses. When the colt broke out of the gate for the lower division of the Battle For Honour Plate, the counterparts felt themselves tardy as he stopped the clock at one minute and just over 12 seconds over the sprints' distance. If he was not eased down, he could have easily completed the course under one minute and 11 seconds. The son of Hymn and Miss Discreet, whose record was hampered in the previous outing, is in tremendous form by winning two races in three outings of his career. He can now carry the hope of his connection to lift the 2000 metres Guineas and the other main events come his way. Aleem Khan's Winning Chick landed a surprise victory in the upper division of the Battle For Honour Plate. The four-year-old filly had a bright chance to score on the card considering the fact of her placing with Spade Of Ace, who later won the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Cup. Jockey Syed Afsar Shah, who substituted Rajinder, rode with patience by keeping her at tailend before the curve and guiding her fortune from the dicey position. Trusted Friend, who played the second fiddle, once again found no better place to stake a claim than the stand side. Divine Heights, who ran on to close third, is knocking at the door. Shah Nawab's Ready To Win made a back to back double in the concluding event - Haryana Plate. What a coincidence last week, she had made it also in the last race.
