Roderic O’Connor Claims the Irish 2000 Guineas
By Racing Correspondent | 22 May 2011 |
A.P. O’Brien
The father and son duo of A.P. O’Brien and Joseph P. O’Brien combined to win The Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas (Group I) at The Curragh on Saturday. O’Brien Jr., who turns 18 on Monday, had a taste of his first classic success when he rode Roderic O’Connor to a pillar-to-post victory. The son of Galileo dictated the pace and succeeded in thwarting the late dash of the race favourite Dubawi Gold even as Richard Hughes did his best to come menacingly close.
