Robert Collet’s Immortal Verse by Pivotal, owned by Richard Strauss, displayed sheer brilliance at the business end of the Coronation, to blaze to a two-length-plus victory ahead of Nova Hawk trained by Collet jr, to give France a one-two placing in the Coronation Stakes on day 4 at the Royal Ascot. Partnered by the ‘cool customer’ Gerald Mosse, Immortal Verse, after a steady start, was poetry in motion in the final two furlongs of the race.

Immortal Verse raced at the tail end of the field for most of the mile-long race as Claiomh Solais, Theyskens Theory, Joviality and Barefoot Lady hid the rest from view. Gerald Masse bid his time alright, relaxing the filly for a prolonged period and decided to move only approaching the final furlong. He pulled her out and away from the front-runners and gave her the go! Immortal Verse reacted as if she was waiting for the cue and bolted ahead with awesome acceleration sewing up the race long way from home. Nova Hawk, trained by Robert Collet’s son Rodolphe, ended a good 2 1/4 lengths away making it a no-contest.

"The pace was good enough on that ground, but not that fast, so she was a bit keen. I decided to drop her behind to make sure she was totally relaxed and when I started to pull her out, she reacted quicker than I expected. It's the first time I've been on board and she was going to get there too soon, but I had the race in hand with 500 meters to go, and it was easy,” said Gerald Mosse, who seemed mighty thrilled by the filly’s turn of foot. Robert Collet acknowledged that this was the best filly he had ever trained.
