Treasure Beach, by Galileo, won the G1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on Sunday at the Curragh. For trainer Aidan O’Brien, it was a historic Sunday as his two other runners - Seville and Memphis Tennessee, finished second and third respectively. O’Brien led in his sixth consecutive Irish Derby winner and a ninth overall with the icing on the cake being a remarkable fourth 1-2-3 in the race since 2002.

Seville was the first to get the front-running Memphis Tennessee in the final quarter mile, while Treasure Beach moved to striking position, perched on the tail of the stablemates. Jockey Colm O’Donoghue timed his move to clockwork precision on Treasure Beach. He worked up a good finishing effort from the 7/2 second-in-demand Treasure beach inside the final furlong and shot past Seville by three parts of a length to earn his first win in the Irish Derby. "Memphis Tennessee set a nice even pace and it suited everyone," O'Brien said. "Colm was excellent on Treasure Beach, and he has progressed with every run." The 5-4 favourite Carlton House, running in the Royal colours, could only finish fourth failing to match the acceleration of O’Brien champs.
