Trainer M Bobby leading Red Indian (R Vaibhav Up), winner of The Nairn Cup Div-I

It was a mixed bag for followers of money at Mysore on Wednesday, with surprises springing out in almost five out of the nine races that went through. Pratap Kamath and C.V.G.K. Kishore among the trainers and M.A. Milan, S. John and Keanen Steyn among the jockeys reaped rich with a double each. The main event of the day, the higher division of The Nairn Cup was won by a long shot, Red Indian. After jumping out smartly, Red Indian (Redback- Matoaka) settled on the haunches of the front-running Ansonia till the final bend and shook off the leader on entering the home straight. Princess Nero, who received the maximum support in the betting followed Red Indian in the final furlong but quickened only towards the concluding stages to get as close as half a length behind the winner at the finish. Apprentice R. Vaibhav rode Red Indian to victory for trainer M. Bobby.

Rakesh's Definite Believe (Hymn-Princess Cut) romped home in the lower division of the cup to make it his second successive victory this season. Definite Believe had not raced for almost a year and a half after a setback and trainer Rakesh has worked well to bring this son of Hymn to his original form. The five-year-old finished fourth on his return to the track this season and has pulled off two successive victories since. Apprentice S. Mubarak took Definite Believe to the front from the start and made every post a winning one. Real Magic improved along the inner rails but found the winner hard to catch and landed second, a length behind. Fantabulous Prince was the fastest finishing towards the final stages of the race, coming from way off the field to take the third place in a close finish with Real Magic.

Pratap Kamath's Daring Dynamite and Rakesh's Lake Emerald were sent in as the top two market fancies in the opener, The Varanasi Plate, a five-and-a-half furlong sprint for 3-year- olds. The two raced together till the top of the straight from where Daring Dynamite (Midtown- Sea Spray) under M.A. Milan pulled away despite drifting out. Lake Emerald finished second a street behind and it was observed that the filly had burst her blood vessel during the race. Sea Jewel was withdrawn before the race on veterinary grounds and Alizadeh was pulled out after he bolted from the gates and completed the course before the race.

The trainer-jockey combination completed their double through Snap Dragon (Major Impact- Cymbidium), in the higher division of The Irappu Falls Plate. Setting out on a start-to-finish mission, Snap Dragon landed the spoils successfully. Sugar Gold was in chase of the winner throughout the straight but failed to get close and finished second. It was observed after the race that Sugar Gold had returned lame on his right fore. Mr Magic, Nice Guy and Bliss finished in that order to take the third, fourth and the fifth placing respectively.

Jockey S. John booted home a back-to-back double through Win Pretty Baby and Chamcha In Chief. C.D. Monappa's Win Pretty Baby (Brave Act-Strokes Of Fire) won the eight-furlong The Sea Biscuit Plate. Ziggy Stardust led till the top of the straight and faded out. Mine Games led briefly after that but it was the Pretty Baby, who went on to Win,with a forceful ride by John. Mr Genious gave a fight to the winner but fell short by three parts of a length at the wire. Hidalgo came with a late run to beat Mine Games for the third place. Swiss Chocolate was withdrawn on veterinary grounds after close examination near the gates.

Trainer C.V.G.K. Kishore engaged John to steer Chamcha In Chief (San Francisco-Golden Opinion) to victory in the lower division of The Irappu Falls Plate. Sunshower surged ahead on entering the home straight but failed to match strides when John brought Chamcha In Chief with a sustained run. Queen Of Destiny appeared with a fast run along the rails to take the runner-up berth while Catapult fell back further to lose the third place to Arkwright close to the winning post. Sunshower never looked to be in the hunt.

Jockey Keanen G. Steyn rode out Kishore's Set Me Free (Argyle Lake-Royal Rex) to win The Paschimavahini Plate from the late-finishing Chief De Mission. Set Me Free was quick at start from the innermost draw and led all the way to the finish. Green Vision fought out with the winner on the straight and fell back to lose the second place to Chief De Mission. Apprentice R. Vaideeshwaran, rider of Chief De Mission, lodged an objection against the rider of Set Me Free for coming on to him at the start due to which he got imbalanced and that cost him the race. The objection was overruled by the Stewards. This win of Keanen was the second in the day having ridden Vishal Yadav's Noble Sacrifice (Brave Act-Restore) to victory in The Itarsi Plate earlier in the day. A Run To Remember finished second while stable companions Bullish Luck and Yanamaria filled the frame in a close finish.

Bipin Salvi's Easy (Razeen-Blue Ridge) ended the day with a win in The Ashwajaya Plate. Settling behind Maratha Conqueror and Perfect Analysis for most part of the race, Easy surged ahead on entering the straight and won from Ciampino, who made a late bid.
