The dual classic conqueror, Blue Bunting added another Group 1 title to her career, by winning the Darley Yorkshire Oaks in a stunning manner, making it her first over older company. Stable companion Rumh set the pace, while Blue Bunting with Frankie Dettori settled well off the pace in the rear, even as most of the others were busy chasing the leader. Turning for home, Wonder Of Wonders was the first to take the initiative from the tiring Laughing Lashes while Vita Nova was moving strongly and Banimpire was also showing some enthusiasm. At that juncture, Mahmood Al Zarooni’s filly (11-4 fav), Blue Bunting was still running under sufferance and Dettori was working hard to get the filly’s legs to quicken. Blue Bunting realized her task and came with a big run in the final furlong and it was a straight fight between her and Sir Henry Cecil-trained Vita Nova and the sheer determination of Dettori paid off as Godolphin’s wonder girl streaked ahead by three parts of a length.
A cheerful Dettori said: "She's in season today and her mind wasn't exactly on the job and it made it really hard work for me. She's never going to be flash and winning by a large distance but she's very hard to get past…Being in season didn't help but she's very tough and her form all year has been red hot."
