Winter Memories Shows Phenomenal Turn of Foot

Winter Memories by El Prado literarily set the turf at Belmont Park on fire, when she won the G1 Garden City Stakes, in a mind-boggling fashion. Entering the last 1 1/2 furlongs the filly looked to be a lost cause, racing last, being hemmed up badly, with no path in sight. Jockey Javier Castellano managed to wriggle out of the mess with a furlong left and when shown the daylights, the daughter of El Prado displayed extraordinary turn of foot to bundle off the entire field in a matter of three to four strides to snatch the race from Theyskens’ Theory by a neck. An extremely talented and gifted filly, Winter Memories carved her own victory with the jockey sitting tight, without moving a nerve. The 11 to 10 favourite picked up $ 250,000 for Phillips Racing Partnership with this victory, which is her fourth graded win out of five starts this season. The Breeders’ Cup winner More Than Real finished third after setting a modest pace.

"She's incredible," said an extremely joyous trainer, Jimmy Toner, "The way she got out of that trap to get into the clear was amazing - it just shows what a good filly she is. I didn't think she had a chance. I can't believe the way she accelerated and exploded - in three strides!"

“She's a phenomenal filly - she has a wonderful kick. When I asked her, she took off." Said jockey Castellano, "I'm blessed to ride this filly,"
