Jockey Silvestre De Souza gave an astounding ride on Royal Ascot winner Fox Hunt to land the Deutsches St. Leger at Dortmund. After a hard fought run with Fair Boss in the final furlong, the even-money favourite, Fox Hunt, got better by three parts of a length to lift the last of the seasons’ classic in Germany. Dawn Twister set a fair pace and brought the field into the straight with Fox Hunt rallying in second. D’Souza made his move on Fox Hunt inside the last 1 1/2 furlongs to surge ahead and thwarted the strong efforts of Fair Boss. The four old prodigy of Dubawi, who now qualifies for the Melbourne Cup, also achieved the rare feat of being the third British trained horse to win a German Classic this season after Acceleration in the 2000 Guineas and Dancing Rain in the Oaks "That was great - just what we wanted," said Deirdre Johnston, who represented her trainer husband Mark Johnston.

"He is a very game and tough horse and never knows when he is beaten. I was confident that the others were never going to get him as he always finds more. We would have been happy to make the running with a better draw, but were happy enough to get a nice lead."

Fox Hunt is trained by Mark Johnston for owner Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and bred at the Ballylinch Stud.
