Sun Chariot Hat-Trick for Sahpresa

The 6 year old Sahpresa by Sahm galloped to an unparalleled hat-trick performance in the G1 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. Settled in mid-field as Strawberrydaiquiri set a leisurely pace, Sahpresa changed gears without having to sweat it out and created history by being the only horse to have won the race three times in a row and also cross £1million in earnings. Chachamaidee put in a spirited effort in the final furlong but was no threat to the winner and finished second ahead of Strawberrydaiquiri.
"It was very easy," jockey Christophe Lemaire said. "She took the lead very easily and we were in front a little bit too soon. She's a strong finisher and I wanted cover in the early part of the race and she relaxed well even though the pace was slow."
"Well done to Sahpresa,” exclaimed trainer Rod Collet. “Two years ago we were an outsider, last year third or fourth favourite and there was more pressure today. It's a pleasure and this means more because her former owner and breeder Douglas McIntyre died a few days ago. I'm so pleased”.
