The Pune races scheduled for Saturday had to be postponed to Sunday due to the tight security measures deployed by the Police gearing up for Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s visit to Pune. The Empress Garden area, where most of the stables are located, has come under severe restrictions and the movement of horses to the racecourse would most certainly be effected. The trainers, hence, requested the Club to consider putting off races scheduled for Saturday, 30th September, 2011.

Mr Vivek Jain, Chairman, RWITC, spoke to Mr Surender Reddy, Chairman of the Hyderabad Race Club and the latter graciously acceded to the RWITC’s request to hold races at Pune on the Deccan Derby day. It is a norm with the Turf Authorities not to conduct races on each other’s Derby days.

“It was nice on Mr Reddy’s part in extending his consent wholeheartedly to our request to hold racing in Pune on their Derby day. The postponement was inevitable and Mr Reddy was quick to accommodate us as a special case and we highly appreciate this gesture,” said Mr Jain.

Saturday’s card will hold good for Sunday, 2nd October 2011. The first race is scheduled at 1.10 pm.
