Real Smasher recorded a hard fought victory over Red Reef in the Bangalore Turf Club Cup, which was the main event of the Delhi races held on Wednesday. Saddlers Aleem Khan, Magan Singh and jockey S Amjad Khan shared a brace each.

The class one event, which attracted nine horses, was termed as a dress rehearsal for the Champion Sprinters Cup which is slated later in this month. With two speedy customers - Moongate Man and Lilly along with Red Reef sharing the top three slots, Real Smasher was travelling fourth till the final furlong.

Seeing Moongate Man drifting out and Lilly slipping backward, Real Smasher had only Red Reef to challenge inside the distance. The duo went cheek by jowl before the last season's Derby winner gelding managed to get better of Red Reef over the six furlongs competition. Ka Ching, who spent his precious time in the hind group occupied the third slot ahead of Moongate Man. Master Blaster, winner of the 2000 Guineas, found the trip short and finished close sixth.

Aleem Khan trainee Made of Gold proved his mettle while emerging victorious in the day's curtain raiser event, Karnataka Plate. The dashing chestnut, who struggled with his fitness during the previous tenure, had no opposition to tackle as Shah had an armchair ride while leading from the front. His remarkable achievement may create a flutter among the youngsters in the classic races. Master Shub Shubh and Burbank, who has the stamina to achieve success over the longer trip, filled the second and third place respectively.

Magan Singh-trained Grey Dancer completed an encore in an impressive manner in the upper division of the Kaveri Plate. Lying third and falling back further behind the front runners, Amjad rode him cleverly to help him gain ground through the rails. Inside the final furlong, the grey gelding put the things beyond the reach of Black Partridge and Anamika, who should soon strike. Magan's Red Cat, who was one of the top ranked horses in his prime age, made the mincemeat of the horses in the lower division of the plate. He should complete a double.

The yester year champion jockey-turned trainer Rajinder celebrated his second win through Odds N Evens, who routed Roaming Fame in the Lalbagh Plate over five furlongs. She is capable of earning more laurels for him.

The senior division of the Baneghatta Plate witnessed a close finish between The Praetorian and Alabaster. The former foiled the start-to-finish bid of the latter. Air Forse One, who warmed up late, finished eye catching third. Whistling Warrior, who was matching strides with the runner-up before fading, should come up a lot. Deepak Kalra's yard Ungettablebachelor became the second youngster, after Made of Gold, to shed the maiden status in the junior division of the event on day.
