Mr.Greely’s Crusade displayed tremendous speed on his way to victory in the Emmar Middle Park Stakes G1 at Newmarket on Saturday. It was a personal milestone for trainer Aidan O’Brien, who saddled his fourth Middle Park Stakes G1. His earlier wins were through Minardi in 2000, Johaneshburg in 2001 and Ad Valorem in the year 2004. Crusade showed early speed and Seamie Hefferman was able to settle the bay in touch with the leader and put pressure in the middle of the track inside the last 2 furlongs. Entering the final furlong Crusade took charge and stayed on to wrap up the race. Richard Hughes on Lilbourne Lad kept the pressure on towards the stand side but fell short by three parts of a length at the wire. O’Brien’s Reply finished third.
“He has improved from run to run. It's grand”, said jockey Seamie Hefferman and added, "When it comes together it is great. He is taking his race well, he has plenty of scope and plenty of speed."
“We are very happy with him," the trainer said. "He ran a lovely race here the last day [in the Somerville Tattersall Stakes] when he got a bit tired.”Seamie rode him very forward today. We are delighted. He could be a Breeders' Cup Juvenile Dirt horse."
