Master Belief Proves Her Mettle

Master Belief proved to be too speedy while annexing the Commissioner of Excise Entertainment and Luxury Tax Cup, which was the feature event of the Delhi races held on Tuesday. Trainer Ishwar Singh Parmar and jockey Chhotu Singh Jodha, who trained and rode the victor respectively, were the most successful professionals by sharing a treble each. Saddler Magan Singh was the other pro to earn a double.

Returning to the turf after a gap of over five months made no difference for Master Belief. The speedy daughter of Juniper and Compassion had to improve a couple of places before dominating the home straight of the six furlongs' event. With this performance, she will be one of the prime contenders for the 1000 Guineas to be held next month. Energetic Girl, who led the way before giving-up to be second, should make amends. The owner mate of the winner, Jewel Star just managed to peg Roaming Fame back for the third position. The latter is knocking at the door.

In-form Kiana extended her winning streak by emerging victorious in the Revenue Plate. After a scoring over shorter distances, she was taking on the class two fields over her pet seven furlong, still a furlong less than the trip suits most her strides. The daughter of Epicentre and Tiana looked to be in no hurry till she reached the homestretch. By the time, the fast finishing and top weighted Ka Ching was able to gather momentum, the race was in the safe keeping of the last year's Derby runner-up. Afea, who had to run through the stand side, finished impressive third under the guidance of Kolkata-based jockey Mohit Singh.

Deepak Kalra-trained Dream Debut landed spoilsports in the upper division of the Betting Plate, which was the curtain raiser event of the day. The son of Ansbach and Queen of Capri was matching strides with El Salvador before making headway into the home straight. Happygolucky tried hard to turn the table but Sumit Bohat atop the former was able to help his mount to keep his head ahead of Happygolucky at the wire. It was the first success for the aged runner after a gap of couple of years.

Roopendra Singh Shekhawat-trained Doon Boy made merry of the class four fields in the lower division of the Betting Plate. The stable and owner mate of the winner, Amazing Super and late finishing Fearless Tiger, who made a slow beginning, finished second and third respectively.

In the senior division of the Excise Plate, Ishwar Singh Parmar's Master Speed returned to the winning block after routing Fiorella. The win which came after a gap of year should her to complete an encore. The junior Plate saw Star Sparkle making every post a winning one with ease.

The concluding event of the ninth day, Entertainment Plate, witnessed a close battle between Sol and Firecracker. The former succeeded by getting half-a-length better of the latter. But the jockey of the latter raised an objection against the winner for hampering his way into the straight. The plea convinced the authorities to revise the order of placings. It was observed that Sol was hanging-in badly throughout. Beatrice, who met with interferences after the jump, filled the third spot.
