Bangalore challenger Allez Vite (Rakti-Alazima) slammed his four rivals, in the Gr.II Golconda St. Leger, the last classic of the Hyderabad Monsoon season to add one more feather in Kunigal Stud’s cap. Five runners had lined up for the start in the grueling 2800 metres test of stamina. Three of them were sporting the colours of Dr.& Mrs.Vijay Mallya while two adorned the silks of Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy. Camacho, coming from western India was installed as the firm favourite and the President of India Gold Cup victor, Ordained One was second in demand at a short price. Camorra set the pace followed by Camacho, Ordained One, Allez Vite and Ice Mountain. They raced in that order till approaching the final turn and once on the straight, Camorra showed plenty of grit and continued to keep the tempo. Allez Vite was the only one showing progress as the two fancied runners, Camacho and Ordained One, looked to be buckling under pressure. Allez Vite pulled off a fine win under Ryan Marshall, surging clear by a length and a half at the finish to give trainer Suleiman Attaollahi his second classic victory.

Jockey P.S.Chouhan booted home two winners to draw level with Imran Khan, in the race for the season’s honours. He started the day on the right note, pulling off a win on Deshmukh trained Arrow in Auto Mode (Razeen-Aglitter), beating the piping hot favourite Vijay’s Conquer by three parts of a length, in the S.Rangarajan Memorial Cup. Arrow in Auto Mode had managed to finish ahead of Vijay’s Conquer when the two had met over seven furlongs in their last run. Pitched over six furlongs, Vijay’s Conquer did not show much improvement, despite sporting tongue strap and meekly surrendered when Arrow in Auto Mode gained ground on the favourite, inside the final furlong.

The double for Chouhan came through L.D’Silva’s Magic Million (Don Micheletto-Life is Life), in the Scintillating Plate. Chouhan had the top weighted Magic Million rallying in third, behind Brianna and Winning Strides as they rounded the final turn and quickly set sail on straightening up and quickened to keep off the late challenge of Prince Paladin towards the closing stages of the race. Sanjaa and the long time leader Brianna finished third and fourth respectively.

D’Silva had earlier led in Walnut Creek (Captain Rio-Ghay), in the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy, a five and a half furlongs dash, for horses in the highest category. Stable Companion Notredame enjoyed the favouritism in the race and jockey Chouhan had the filly going well even inside the last 100 metres after leading all the way but fizzled out like a pricked balloon in the last couple of strides to finish fourth. Walnut Creek produced a smashing run to come out and win in a new course record timing. Alexander Square finished a close second ahead of the fast finishing Splendid Act in a three way finish.

K.Satheesh trained Rich And Famous (Emerald Cat-Wine N’Song) caused a flutter, in the Smt.C.Mohana Kumari Satyanarayana Memorial Cup, causing a massive crash in the first leg of the jackpot pool. The Himalayas and Zulu Punch got engaged in a keen fight from the top of the straight with Rich And Famous rallying in third. The Himalayas had shrugged off Zulu Punch and was looking good when Rich And Famous charged with a terrific gallop to get the nod at the wire. The favourite Jingles ran in snatches in the final furlong and finished a close third.

Ananth Vatsalya’s Kohinoor Victory (Inhabitant-Red Hot Babe) scored an upset victory, in the Tick Tock Plate. Kohinoor Victory surged ahead of Green Gift in the last 200 metres even as the favourite Bang on Target failed to improve on the straight. Apprentice Ajit Kumar rode his fortieth winner and is the first from the new crop to achieve the feat. He will not be entitled for any allowance hereafter.

Shehzad Abbas trained Achiever (Conquering Hero-Paper Queen) finally managed to shed his maiden ranks, in his eighteenth attempt. The five years old, led from the start and kicked on towards the closing stages to win by three lengths from China Pearl., in the lower division of the Loyal Prince Plate.

Grey Shot (Kly Green-Ingenuity) from Faiyaz Shaikh’s stable produced a big run from behind, to fight out with Mighty Prince in the dying moments and win by three parts of a length, in the higher division. Imaan finished third behind Mighty Prince. A lone punter turned Rich and Famous, walking away with the jackpot bounty.
