Deacon Blues put on show, an incredible sprinting ability, to win the G2 Qipco British Championship Sprint Stakes. The win on the Championship day at the Ascot for this son of Compton Place has been his biggest so far and is also his fifth on the trot. Johnny Murtagh had Deacon Blues well behind the pace setter Hooray and as they entered the final one and a half furlongs the four year old made smooth transition with a couple of reminders from Johnny and won with more on hand. Deacon Blues is trained by James Fanshawe for owners Jan Hopper, Peter Hopper & Michelle Morris. Wizz Kid and Libranno worked their way late to finish second and third in that order behind the winner.
Murtagh, praising Deacon Blues and the trainer James Fanshawe to the hilt said, "I've had a great bit of luck for James over the years and he's a great trainer. From the day I won on him at the Curragh I thought this lad was a Group 1 horse. I probably got there a bit soon but he's won so easy and I think he's a genuine Group 1 horse."
