Trainer M Eshwer leading Billo Rani (R Vaibhav Up), winner of The Elusive Pimpernel Trophy

Wednesday turned out to be a very productive day for trainer Michael Eshwer, who bagged a rich haul of three wins in a card of seven races. Legal Knight, Billo Rani and Alizadeh were the three victors from the stable. Apprentice R.Vaibhav was astride two of them. Billo Rani (Brave Hunter-After Glow) turned out to be a surprise packet, in the Elusive Pimpernel Trophy. The five year old had never raced beyond six furlongs and was being pitched over seven furlongs for the first time in her career.

The ‘odds on’ favourite Bucethalis chased the early leader Youre A Legend till the last 400 metres and surged ahead to hit the front. Passing the distance marker, the lead of Bucethalis started to diminish rapidly and the favourite surrendered meekly to Billo Rani, who surprised the field with a fast dash. Social Climber rallied on to take the second spot ahead of Hampton Court and Bucethalis.

Debutant, Legal Knight (Mull Of Kintyre-Lovely Fantasy), won the Dharwad Plate in an impressive manner. Jockey Y.S.Srinath guided the favourite to the front as the four runners jumped off the gates and led all the way to win unextended. Alabama ran green in the final furlong when asked for an effort and finished second.

Alizadeh (Ikthyar-Kilshannig) lifted the Sharavathi Plate, the concluding race of the day. Stable companion Solmaz garnered most support in the betting, slashed down to ‘half money’ towards race time. Alizadeh, who was the second in demand hit the front right from the start and led all the way. Solmaz was struggling to keep pace as Alizadeh pulled away from the rest on the home straight and lost the second place to Ahira near the winning post.

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Kukanof (Hymn-Thunderella) came with a flying finish inside the final 100 metres to beat Aerial Acrobat on the last stride, in the B.R.Hills Plate. Aerial Acrobat had established three lengths lead and was looking good passing the final pole but lost out to the mighty dash of Kukonaf. Galaxy and Huckleberry Finn took the third and fourth places respectively.

Vikram Appachu trained Caldera (Hurricane State-I Have A Dream) won the Gadag Plate to score an encore. The favourite Del Gratia took the shortest way as the field turned for home and slipped in to take the lead. Caldera made her move from around the field and shifted in as she got past Del Gratia. Rayan Marshall, the rider of Del Gratia raised an objection against the winner for cutting across sharply inside the last 300 metres and that was overruled by the stewards.

Star And Stripes (Sussex-Titania) from Zareer Darashah’s stable justified the favouritism in the Lt.Col.Rudrappa Memorial Plate. Darling Dynamite set out on a start to finish mission and had pulled away by almost six lengths from the nearest rival on entering the home stretch. Entering the last 200 metres Darling Dynamite had lost all the steam and started to shorten her strides. Star And Stripes, who was in chase, slipped in along the rails to win the race. Haggler warmed up late to finish second ahead of Darling Dynamite.

Isinbayeva (Bee’s Prospector-Raisin) made every post a winning one in the opening race of the day to give trainer C.Girinath a boost on his return to training. Ariana, Gentle Legend and Oblique filled the frame.
