The Powerful Charenzaccio Line

The last few dams we have dealt with produced champions without themselves performing notably on the track. The two broodmares Charenzaccio and Schiaparelli (a mother and daughter duo) are no different. The former, by Lorenzaccio out of Chanel, won only one race but produced a magnificent string of nine winners headed by a champion filly Divine Light. This versatile filly, sired by Riyahi, won the Bangalore Derby in record time and held the record for the metric mile for a long period of time. She picked up as many as 10 races.

Mystic Memory, a Malvado progeny, was another Rashid Byramji-trained filly with an equal number of wins to her credit. She annexed the Indian St. Leger and the Bangalore St Leger but finished second in the Indian Oaks and Indian Derby. Ministerial has a total of eight victories including the Invitation Cup while the filly Ministrella performed brilliantly on the South India circuit.

Schiaparelli did not race but so powerful is the Charenzaccio line that she went on to produce five winners including the magnificent Adler who notched up eight wins including the Invitation Cup.

Schiaparelli's other notable winners were Shocking and Vesuvius. The former, a filly, won five races, while the colt Vesuvius had a count of four including the Indian 2000 Guineas.
