Stewards Optimistic for Mid December Start

Despite the Hastings stables being hard hit by a mysterious viral fever, the Stewards of RCTC are optimistic that they can get things in order and kick-off the winter meet by mid-December.

About 256 horses (almost half the stable strength) have been affected by the virus. Fortunately, those tested for ‘Equine Influenza’ have come up negative and there are no mortalities. Two leading veterinarians were flown in from different parts of the country and they were stumped by this ‘mysterious flu’.

Chairman of the Stewards, Cyrus Madan, said that as the horses were laid off work and allowed to rest throughout the day, they are bound to recuperate fast. This is a proven fact, as endorsed by an Australian expert.

“Optimism is the best way to tackle this problem. At the same time we are not leaving any stones unturned to ensure a virus-free environment,” insisted Madan. “We will be reviewing the situation every few days and do our best to expedite the recovery of the affected horses,” he added.
