Daniel David-trained Steal The Glory lived up to his name with an excellent display of sprinting ability when he lifted the Gamble For Love Cup at the Calcutta racecourse on Wednesday. During a warm afternoon on a fast track, the colt by Conquering Hero out of Winter Dreams was ridden with great confidence by apprentice Amandeep Singh who has come into his own of late.

Tracking stablemate Right Again till the turning for home,Steal The Glory shot ahead but had to stave off strong challenges from - first Elusive Study and then Fort Knox.

The afternoon started in thunderous manner for trainer Vijay Singh and jockey Neeraj Rawal. Their Romantic Quest won the curtain-raiser in dramatic manner from Storming Success who threatened to pull it off opposite the grand stand.

Javed Khan and his apprentice I. Khan were in the limelight during the afternoon as they paired up fruitfully to annex a lucrative victory with their Magic Spell, who won the Great Scott Handicap as he liked from the likes of Body and Soul and Waterwood. I.Khan then piloted another favourite Italian Star (from John Stephens yard), running in the Noble Fairy Handicap. He romped home a clear winner proving that he is not meant for the lowest class.

The Annihilator Cup belonged to Arti Doctor and Asish. After the horse's miserable failure in his last outing, the blue-blooded chestnut was handled flawlessly by his rider. Permitting top-weight Regent Appeal to call the shots till the head of the straight,

Apostrophe was brought with a fluent run on the outside to leave the favourite Fabulous Emperor standing. In this race, Solid Success dropped the rider at the gates.

The shocker of the day came in the form of Pursuit of Power running in the Norwegian Wood Handicap. Despite being burdened with a crushing impost of 62kg, not only did Maseyk collar the hot public choice Aveline but did it even while losing considerable ground as the six-year-old mare finished on the outer rails. It was a truly incredible victory which left trainer Karki perplexed. Fancied considerably by the connections, Da Bomb had to be withdrawn before coming under starters orders because of poor gate manners.

The curtain came down with the costly failure of the favourite Master Marvel. Javed Khan's Adalira was ridden with great purpose by Christopher Alford to peg back Mischievous Rose and the favourite.
