Trainer Karthik Ganapathy leading Forest Flair (B Prakash Up), winner of Deccan Chronicle Sprinters Million Grade-III

The finish of The Deccan Chronicle Juvenile Sprinters' Million (Grade III), held on Sunday at Bangalore, turned out to be a one-horse affair with Forest Flair winning this event in effortless fashion. The Karthik Ganapathy trained gelding made his opponents look pedestrian as he sauntered away to win by almost eight lengths while lifting this trophy. The race attracted a small field of six runners. Forest Flair was a winner of three starts in Mumbai, and this resulted in his conceding weight to the others in this race today. None of his rivals had won more than once, and therefore, the terms of this race saw them receiving seven kilos and more from this top-weighted horse. Forest Flair had run second to Western India champion Versaki, and this form was more than enough to show out in today's set. For some unknown reasons, the bookmakers were happy to lay him at 13/10. Dhariwal’s Six Shooter shared the favouritism based on the fact that this progeny of Six Speed had made an impressive debut during the early part of the season. The other four runners seemed to be out of depth in this event. A rumour pertaining to the present fitness of Forest Flair seemed to be the main cause for this fluctuation of odds in the day's feature. Bottom-weighted Reaping Reward jumped smartly and took early control of the proceedings. The filly showed the way to Six Shooter and Forest Flair, while the other three were busy knocking around with each other. The worst affected by this skirmish at the back was Scubarioo, who was seen gracing the wrong end of the field. Reaping Reward shot her bolt near the bend, and made way for Six Shooter at this stage. Suraj Narredu was just about trying to straighten his horse and put him into gear, when Prakash and Forest Flair arrived on the scene. This nice-looking horse accelerated brilliantly and skipped away from his pursuers. Prakash had the luxury of looking back and relaxing his mount in the final stages of this race. Scubarioo made a late dash from the rear, and got up on the last stride to nail Six Shooter at the post. Based on this performance, Scubarioo is likely to have a successful time in Hyderabad during the Monsoon season. Forest Flair has confirmed that he is the top juvenile sprinter of this season. To have given weight and a thrashing to his rivals was something out of the ordinary. Forest Flair has improved a lot and Karthik can look forward to his future performances in Pune with keen anticipation. Jockey S John caused some sort of a stir at the course by riding a couple of sensational finishes during the afternoon. His rides on Spark Of Reverance and Conceptual were totally different in nature. Prasanna Kumar's Spark Of Reverance was the first winner. The horse had been penalized heavily for his last victory, and was accordingly available at a lucrative 7/1. John allowed him to run freely in front, and was followed for most of the way by the even-money favourite Cielo Ray. The situation changed alarmingly at the bend. Cielo Ray began to send out distress signals, slowed down dramatically and dropped out of contention. Alford ridden Oban came with a smooth run and joined issue with the leader. Oban gained a slender advantage near the distance post, and looked to be travelling the better of the two. But John wasn't going to give up in a hurry. He pulled out his stick and rode purposefully. Spark Of Reverance responded beautifully and regained the advantage. The duo returned to a standing ovation from their supporters. The win on Arjun Mangalorkar's Conceptual looked equally brilliant. The mile event for horses in class II saw most of the support flowing in the direction of last outing winner Acridian. This Darius trainee was considered a cut above class and was favoured ahead of Corbett and Sunny Gold. Conceptual was available at 10's in the ring. The two fancied runners, Corbett and Acridian, made most of the running and brought the closely packed field into view. Conceptual was racing last of ten as they entered the home stretch. Corbett shook off Acridian and sailed for home. Suraj seemed to have things under control, as Corbett opened up a three-length lead over his nearest pursuer while entering the last furlong of this event. The race commentator was the first to pick up a late move from Conceptual. She began to pick up a bunch of tired horses. The filly literally flew at the end and shocked Corbett near the winning post. John's riding came in for a lot of praise from all present at the course. The Tippu Sultan Cup, a sprint race for maidens, was split into two divisions. The upper division saw Arjun's on-money favourite Virtuoso being opposed by Komandur's Brigades Passion. Both these runners had run suggestively in their last starts, and the race was supposed to be restricted to the two of them. The speedy Virtuoso made all the running and led till hundred metres from home. Suraj Narredu and Brigade Passion were in chase from the very beginning. The front-runner stopped like a pricked balloon and allowed Brigades Passion to overtake him. In fact, even Appolonaire finished like a train and beat Virtuoso into third place. The lower division was a cake walk for Time Flies. He was lucky to find himself in Division II, and was almost unbackable in the ring. He beat a bunch of no-hopers and allowed Arjun to complete a double for the second consecutive day. This win enabled Rajendra to complete four-out-of-four for the weekend. An age-group sprint saw some spirited betting on Ganapathy's Lunar Lust. Her earlier performances did not justify the confidence of her connections today. She had faltered in a similar set during the first weekend of this season. A subsequent win had ensured a huge penalty today. Lunar Lust was in mid bunch till the bend before Prakash asked her to quicken. Instead of improving, she began to shorten her strides and eventually finished last in an eleven horse field. The race saw a speedy performance from Amit Caddy's Join The Party, who confirmed that his last unexpected victory was no flash in the pan. He led from the start and was never headed. Join The Party clocked a smart timing while winning ahead of Perfect Analysis and Tina's triumph. The winner is capable of repeating in a similar event later in the season. Nosher Cama kept his bandwagon rolling by sending out Semper Eadem to win a race in open Class IV company. The filly had won her only start in Mumbai and was appearing for the second time in two months. The well-bred filly was backed down to odds-on favouritism. Her supporters were nap on her, as they chose to disregard her top weight and the fact that she was racing for the first time on the local track. The filly tracked Gara Fluid till the bend before assuming command of the situation. Neeraj Rawal chose to ride her hands and heels thereafter to register a stylish victory from Amazer and Chesterford Touch. Semper Eadem can be followed with conviction in Pune.
