The nine-year-old gelding Sea Legend showed an amazing zest for racing as he raised a great gallop in the final furlong to peg back the runaway Chagall in the very last stride. Trainer Deepak Karki has done a commendable job on this joint property of Darius Bulsara and Y.J. Dastoor. Jockey P.S. Chouhan timed his final run to a nicety to lift the Donegal Cup.

Earlier Karki had started the day with a bang when his friendless Autumn Rose won the opening event with jockey Domingo astride.

Deepak Khaitan-owned Arisaka, from the stable of Javed Khan, showed his class in the Illustrious Reign Cup. The daughter of Flitch out of Arikana won without raising a sweat as did the Khaitan-owned Alterity in the Red Chieftan Handicap.

Surprisingly available at even-money, the top-weight Alterity was piloted with great understanding by Neeraj Rawal. Constant Wonder set the pace till the bend before being briefly overtaken by Glenbervie. Thereafter it was all Alterity.

Elusive Fortune completed the hattrick for the red-and-golds in the hands of Dinesh Singh as he won the Quincy Handicap in great style. This son of Elusive Pimpernel out of Show Me The Money obviously relishes the mile-and-quarter trip. The favourite Italian Affair had all the chances but found his weight a stopper.

The Memorable Day Handicap saw a memorable finish as the Robin Corner-trained Summer Rose responded well to Dinesh Singh’s hard riding in the final 100 metres of the mile race and got the better of Stride To Strike at the wire.

The Jaiswal clan had four runners in the starting line-up. They decided to give Rock Superstar a free rein and Shekhawat’s mount bowled along merrily in front till 100 metres from home when the two heavy-weights took over.

But at the end of the day, it way Sea Legend who stole the honours - pun intended!
