The six-year-old gelding Sovereign Power and four-year-old Salazaar fetched the highest bids of Rs 5 lakh at the RCTC Breeze-Up sale conducted at the racecourse on Tuesday evening. Prompted by auctioneer Cyrus, the Javed Khan yard grabbed Sovereign Power.

A winner of six races in western India, Sovereign Power is rated at 120. Thus, right now, it seems the connections will have to restrict his immediate future to Terms and Sweepstakes races.

Another gelding which fetched an identical price was Salazaar. This too was picked up by the Javed Khan stable. The fashionably bred bay by Burden of Proof out of the Bangalore Derby winner Summer Dust has so far won one race only and is currently rated at 44. Under a patient caretaker such as Javed, this full-brother to Staranzano is certain to have a bright and long future ahead of him at this centre.

Two thoroughbreds, which kept the auctioneer's hammer waiting longer than others, were Saarah Alam (Rs 4 lakh) and the speedy Diomedes (Rs 4.6 lakh). The three-year-old Loughborough (Flitch-Haynes Park) was purchased by the Vijay Singh yard for Rs 4 lakh.

A total of 14 lots were sold.
