The son of Alnasr Alwasheek and Raptures, Rapture of Victory, produced a scintillating run, to decimate the opposition in the Deccan Juvenile Million, a sweepstakes race for two year-olds on Sunday. The much favoured Glen Gyle set out in front with Kuchipudi in hot pursuit, and the two broke away from the rest. As the field approached the distance post, Glen Gyle was found to be shortening his strides while Kuchipudi opened up her reserves and shot ahead. David Allan started to ride out Rapture of Victory and he got into a tremendous gallop, to score an emphatic victory. Kuchipudi held on in second, while Don Valentino and Guiding Light took the minor placing. Vittal Deshmukh trains the winner for the popular colours of Pink and Red Stars.

Prasad Raju’s Royal Tune won the higher division of the Malakpet Cup. Gnaneshwar had to work his way on Royal Tune, to pass the relentless Flash Flares and win the race. Pavarotti came up with a late dash to get the second spot beating Flash Flares on the post.

Prasad’s Arabian Dancer failed to impress in the lower division. Leo D’Silva’s Chesapeake was well settled in fourth, till the final bend, made his way through the shortest way and surged ahead in the final furlong. Jockey Duran Fentiman did well to change tactics on Chesapeake, riding him in check and coming from behind. Greek Fire, Paymaster and Indian Storm passed the early leader Kohinoor King, to fill the frame. The favourite Arabian Dancer could not produce the required gallop when asked for an effort and finished sixth.

Leo scored a double, winning the Dynamic Dancer Plate, the concluding race of the day, on Leading Light. The public choice, Achiever, had taken charge inside the final furlong and was looking to clear the task when leading Light manoeuvred his way through the field and flew on the wide outside to get the race close home.

Trainer Shehzad Abbas and Tom Mclaughlin combination continued their winning streak, completing a double but missing out a treble, on Achiever. The duo scored on The Leader and Auburn Star. Sitting second last till the top of the straight, The Leader, was ridden to a nicety by Tom Mclaughlin to win the opener. The supporters of The Leader, had lost their hopes, when they found the favourite loitering in the rear but rose in unison to cheer Tom when he brought the son of China Visit with a confident ride to win the race.

Auburn Star tracked the early leader, Rhythmic Gymnast, till the top of the straight and went past to score an easy win in the higher division of the Grand Parade Plate. Al Jabal, Queen of Sheeba and Tristar took the minor placing in a close finish. Practical Phyics dropped the rider soon after jumping out of the gates.

The first favourite, Armada, had it easy in the lower division. Jockey Imran Khan improved his mount into a handy third as the field approached the 600 metres and once on the straight, went clear to win unperturbed. Pygmalion, Amontillado and Democracy filled the frame.

The Kohinoor came out of his maiden ranks in his third attempt, when he won the higher division of the Flirting Vision Plate. Setting out on a start to finish mission, The Kohinoor, started to feel the pressure in the last furlong, thereby shifting in and out slightly. Young Soldier was attempting to make his move passing the distance post and jockey Rupesh anticipating trouble shifted in, only to find The Kohinoor shifting in again. Rupesh took objection to Chary’s riding fashion on the winner, but the stewards rightly overruled it as the winner had not caused any severe damage to Young Soldier’s chances. The favourite Lambourn opted to run along the rails and never improved, ending up third.

The Nelston Plate turned out to be a closely fought race with Tristar getting the better from the rest at the winning post. Siddipet Express, Madho, Scorcher, Sir Almas finished in that order behind the winner, the first five within one length.
