Vivek Jain Tops RWITC Polls Again

By Mahendra Mallya | 08 Dec 2011 | MUMBAI

Vivek Jain, Chairman of the RWITC yet again topped the polls with a record 908 votes for the RWITC Managing Committee elections held during the AGM of the Club at the Mahalaxmi racecourse on 8thDecember 2011. A fairly good turnout of over 1000 members arrived at the Members’ lawns which was open for voting from 11 am. This was the first time that the voting took place all through the day. Hitherto, voting was always held just after the Chairman’s address and after most items on the agenda was done with. The voting closed at 8 pm sharp and the long hours open to voting gave members the flexibility to come at their convenient time, hence the healthy figure.

Out of the possible 1111 valid votes Mr Jain lead comfortably. Mr Jaydev Modi (771) and Mr Champaklal Zaveri (742) finished second and third respectively. Mr KN Dhunjibhoy returns to the committee room at the expense of sitting committee member Mr Gautam Lala. For a first timer, Mr Ashwin Mehta didn’t do too badly as he polled 473 votes.

“It is indeed a good feeling to have won with this majority. I am immensely pleased, to say the least. However, there is work to be done and the jubilation will be short lived. There are concerns lurking around and there is plenty in the plate to cater to. We had cordial working atmosphere in the committee room and this year too, with the exception of Mr Lala, it’s the same gentlemen that will continue in managing the Club’s affairs. New entrant Mr KN Dhunjibhoy, Is not really new. He has been the Chairman of the Club long enough in the past. His experience and expertise will surely be an asset in sorting out some of the grave issues facing the Club,” said Mr Jain.

“With the elections out of the way, the focus will now shift to more serious business of horseracing and other issues such as continuation of our liaison with the Government in seeking reduction of the heavy taxation, initiate proceedings in the renewal of the land lease, disposing off litigations etc. The year ahead is chock-o-block for me and my colleagues. We shall do our best and hopefully achieve much more than what we have in the recent past. I thank all our members for their continued and overwhelming support and shall always remain accessible to them,” he concluded.

Mr Shyam Ruia was elected Chairman of the Stewards.
