Trainer Arjun Mangaorkar receiving The Heeroji Lad Bangalore Juvenile Million from Mr Anil Heeroji Lad Winner Aboline

Arjun Mangalorkar's Aboline (Burden Of Proof-Super Fan) reconfirmed his status as the best juvenile of his vintage to have raced so far in Bangalore this season, when he stormed to a sensational victory on the local track this afternoon. The setting for this performance happened to be The Heeroji Lad Bangalore Juvenile Million (Grade III), which was held on the concluding day of the Bangalore Winter Season 2008-2009. The feature event in a long card of ten events held on Saturday, saw twelve of the best three year olds at this center competing for this prestigious trophy over seven furlongs. Since these youngsters were competing without winning penalties, Aboline was at a distinct advantage over the others. He was the only one to have won both his starts in recent months. On all known form he should have been an obvious favourite to win this race, but that was not to be. The presence of D'artagnan (Placerville-Rapidash) from Padmanabhan's yard was enough for racegoers to go nap on him. This big made gelding had made a fine impression while winning over a similar trip exactly two weeks back. Inspite of looking gross that day, he had accelerated smoothly and won effortlessly. Racing pundits spoke in hushed tones while touting him as the "best" three year old in the country. The bookmakers shared the same view while installing him as the hot favourite at 65/100 ahead of Aboline, who was easily backable at 5/1. Cruising, Hatsuhaana and Sprint Star were quietly fancied by their yards to score an upset victory. The runners took of to a level start, with most of the jockeys making a serious effort to take advantageous positions. Suraj Narredu astride Aboline did not have to do much while skirting the field from an extreme outside draw ,and take over the running. Chintz,Cruising, Tanzanite and Sprint Star were in close attendance, while D'artagnan was racing in mid group as they took the rising ground and turned for home. Aboline was totally balanced as he took the final bend, and responded beautifully to Suraj's urgings. He shot away from the pack and established a firm grip on this race. Cruising and D'artagnan went in chase ,but were no match to the star racing ahead of them. Aboline passed the winning post a shade over four lengths clear of Cruising and D'artagnan. The timing of 1 minute 24.9 seconds, which was a little over the course record, spoke volumes about the abilities of this champion three year old. For the third succesive time this season, Aboline has raced well within himself while winning in superb fashion. His true potential shall be gauged only in the Summer Season. Cruising's effort was also praiseworthy. She was racing within a week of her victorious debut, and today's performance showed that Cruising is destined to become a good sprinter. Aboline is bred at the Kunigal Stud Farm. This was the best year for this establishment. Numerous three year olds bred at this farm have won their races, with Captivating joining Aboline as a winner of all three starts. Kunigal Stud farm won the laurels for having sent out the maximum number of winners during the season. Incidentally this was the third straight year that they have walked away with the award for being the champion stud farm of the Winter Season. The team at Kunigal deserves praise for this wonderful achievement. The victory on Aboline capped a successful season for Suraj Narredu. After an armchair ride to victory astride Acridian in the day's opener, Aboline was winner number 36 for him. He ended more than a distance clear of his nearest colleague. Suraj was a deserving winner of the jockey's championship. A true picture of his popularity and riding capabilities is reflected by the fact that he rode these winners for almost a dozen different trainers. Padmanabhan dethroned long time champion Ganapathy, and emerged as a worthy winner of the trainers championship. Keeping in mind the relatively smaller number of horses in his stable, as compared to many others, this was a commendable achievement. The multi-classic winner Icebreaker was undoubtedly the "star" of the stable. The other notable performance of the day came from Prasanna Kumar's Spark Of Gold. The four year old started his seasonal campaign in Class IV, and on Saturday scored his third straight victory, this time in the highest class. Spark Of Gold converted this mile long race into a procession. He led all the way from Salsera and Mother's Pride. The trio finished in the same order, with the rest unable to keep pace with the front-runners. Royal Amber finally entered the winners enclosure after a few unsuccessful efforts as a favourite in his earlier runs. The connections decided to declare an apprentice and take some weight off his back. With Shiva Kumar claiming three kilos , Royal Amber strode relentlessly and collared Little Splendour near the winning post. Fancied Sunny Gold and Superyacht finished way behind the field. Shiva kumar had earlier won the lower division of the same event with a front-running effort on Irfan's Telemacchus. The early advantage proved to be decisive as Telemacchus held on to his diminishing lead from a late finishing Caprioska. The last named was running after a real long time and looked gross in the paddock. He should be followed after today's run. Jockey Harish was given a rousing reception when he completed a treble in the last race of the day. He won an impossible race with Kingdomofdreams, when he came from the rear and covered acres of ground to beat Corleone near the post. Corleone had established a huge lead of almost 6-8 lengths near the distance post, but was a hapless spectator when he was challenged by the winner. Kingdomofdreams should relish a trip longer than today's six furlongs. Harish had earlier scored runaway victories with favourite Caspian Sea and outsider Live It Up. Both were ridden for eventual speed ,and were brought from behind to score easily in the straight. The easiest victory of the day was scored by another Kunigal bred juvenile called Ceilo Rey. He was friendless in a bunch of twelve maidens, as a lot of money flowed in the direction of Samar Singh's Noble Sacrifice. The favourite had run a few brilliant races in the past, and it was expected that she would be able to score in this set. Cielo Rey was running for the first time and his performance was a revelation. Cielo Rey darted out of the extreme outside draw and sailed into an unassailable lead. The margin of victory kept increasing till De Souza decided to relax his hold on him. The duo passed the winning post almost a distance clear of Spring A Surprise and Noble Sacrifice.
