Noble Executive shapes like a classic prospect

Noble Executive (B.Prakash up), winner of the Katil Plate being led in by trainer S.Ganapathy

Noble Executive was always thought off very highly by the stable but the well-bred son of Placerville has turned out to be a disappointment, leaving everything behind at the morning workouts. After an unsuccessful campaign at Mumbai in the plums, Noble Executive was brought back to Bangalore. Trainer Ganapathy did well to put the blinkers on the gelding and it has indeed worked wonders. Noble Executive showed out to be a transformed horse on Friday when he decimated the opposition in the season’s best timing for a three-year old which was only a fraction slower than the one clocked by Sprinters Cup winner Strengthtostrength.

Noble Executive clocked a brilliant timing of one minute 13.52 seconds for the six-furlong trip, winning the Katil Plate, a race for three-year olds by a distance, and the timing was remarkable because had he been stretched, he could well have clocked a mind-boggling timing. Strengthtostrength no doubt carried four kgs more than Noble Executive but the fact that the latter is a three year old and won easing up is suggestive of great things to come. Airworthy and Flowington were left to dispute for minor placings and the former took the runner-up spot quite comfortably in the end.

Ganapathy had a double for the day through Regal Society who won the day’s feature event, the Kempegowda Cup, a mile race for horses rated 30 to 45. The sparingly raced Regal Society had been under exploited as a result, the second successive win, despite competing in the higher class was not unexpected, as he had showed out to be a quickly improving type as well. Regal Society won at the expense of Star Alone, with the fancied Rio Tinto once letting down his supporters albeit this time due to a problem with the stirrup which prevented jockey Aslam Kader from rendering the right kind of assistance. Strides of Fire did not put in a worthwhile show and this son of Green Forest seems to have his lost his form inexorably. Indian Rocket continued his good run to finish third.

Trainer Sydney Moses has struck to his methods whether they have paid him dividends consistently or not. However, he has had success this way right through his career notwithstanding extended lean spells. He loves to bring down his horses much below their class so that when given the nod, they would readily oblige. After a very long time, he led in three winners through Crystal Goblet, Mantle of Peace and Three Coins who all proved too superior to the opposition. The fact that these horses were too good for the set they were running in made the rest in the field to take it easy and it came as no surprise when everybody’s money seemed to be on these horses. The wins were achieved without giving any anxious moments to the enthusiastic supporters. Jockey Srinath was astride all these three winners.

The five-kg allowance claimed by jockeys who have been around the scene for several years, has been making a big impact on the outcome of a result. With the horses being closely handicapped in Bangalore, a five kg drop means a big, big difference to the whole complexion of the race. The well-bred Proflare was strongly fancied to win the Dharmaprakasha M V Veerappa Memorial Plate (Div I) but the favourite flopped miserably along with Pettalumma. Hello Baby, with R Mani in the saddle, came from behind to floor the opposition, to win in taking style. Lesser fancied Parisien Belle and Native Red occupied the second and third spots. The lower division of the race saw Arjun Mangalorkar’s Dover find one better for the umpteenth time. Dover had the credentials but the daughter of Argyle Lake has always flattered to deceive and this time it was Shara who edged her out with Quorum adding up to the excitement by being part of the three-horse finish. Dover has been tried from a sprint to a mile but unfortunately the result has turned out to be the same.
