Trainer Bipin V Salvi leading Swiss Queen (Afsar Khan up) winner of the Victory Zone Cup

Swiss Queen (Bee’s Prospector-Fushia) from the stables of Bipin V Salvi romped home in the Victory Zone Cup, the feature of Wednesday’s races at Mysore. The 6 year old, whose last victory was almost a year and a half ago, was getting back to form as evinced by her previous three runs. Swiss Queen had finished a close second in her last run after leading all the way over a mile trip and with two furlongs less to cover, Swiss Queen should have been in the money but was completed neglected in the betting, while High Treason received strong support, winding up as an ‘on money’ favourite.

Nishi Girl shot ahead when the field was dispatched and led with Swiss Queen in tow. On the home stretch Nishi Girl kept up the pace but Swiss Queen started to bridge the gap, collared the leader and romped home to register a facile win. The favourite High Treason finished a tame third behind Nishi Girl.

Unique Star (Juniper-Universal Star) was the biggest upset of the day, paying out Rs.806/- for a tanner, in the Suvarnavathy Plate, a six furlongs sprint for horses rated 60 and above. After finishing down the field in his previous run two weeks ago, Unique Star was completely neglected in the betting although he had logged in two successive wins during the Mysore Season. Miss Ruby on a start to finish mission looked good 200 metres from home, even as Daring Dynamite and Highland Bounty stepped up the pressure. Unique Star running in about sixth position burst into the scene and sizzled past the front runners, in front of the grand stand. Miss Ruby held on to finish second ahead of Daring Dynamite and Highland Bounty.

Prezzie (Juniper-Landrail) lost the opening race to Artisan on the track but successfully reversed the order in the Steward’s room. Prezzie had got to the front on entering the straight and jockey S. John was in full flow. Artisan got stronger from behind but started to run hither thither when the rider went for the stick and in the process disturbed the running of Prezzie right through the last 300 metres. Artisan prevailed by a neck over Prezzie at the finish.  John lodged an objection against the rider of Artisan and the Stewards reversed the order of placing after upholding the objection.

Trainer C.Girinath who trains Prezzie saddled Pearl Of Bangalore (Juniper-Pyjama Samba) to victory in the Nandidurga Plate. Amazing Flora, Pearl Of Bangalore and Atom Bomb started to match strides with each other as the race got to a boil inside the last 200 metres. Apprentice R. Vaibhav managed to ride out Pearl Of Bangalore to pull off a sensational win from Atom Bomb close to the wire. Amazing Flora finished third, 3/4th of a length adrift.

Dinesh Pujar pulled off a double through Spirituality and Speedy Amigo, both at nourishing odds. Spirituality (Alnasr Alwasheek-Azzilfi), on debut, unleashed a terrific gallop in the last 150 metres to beat Ice Weapon by a length at the finish. Golden Slipper finished third ahead of Stardom Girl.

Speedy Amigo (Diffident-Abish) lifted the higher division of the Rajendravilas Plate. River Gem and Sterling Cruise cut a fast pace together till the top of the straight and started to tire out. Byzantine along with Speedy Amigo moved from behind to take over from the tiring duo and charged towards the winning post. Speedy Amigo travelled the better to finish ahead of Byzantine. Refuse To Bend covered plenty of ground to take the third spot, M. Bobby trained Wimbledon Star (Concordial-Golden Pari) got up in the nick of time to snatch the race from Sky Empress, in the lower division. The two surged past Freedom Fighter with 300 metres to go from home and fought a fierce battle till the finish. Alchesaye and Vertex finished third and fourth respectively.

R.Vaibhav rode C.D.Monnappa’s Truthandfaith (Classic Tale-English Daughter) to a start to finish win in the Taj Mahal Plate, the concluding race of the day. Ariana was in chase throughout the straight but failed to get past and finished second.
