Trainer Neil Darashah leading Successor (P S Chouhan up), wiinner of The Kakatiya Cup

Successor (Ontario-Lakes of Killarney), who was thrashed at Hyderabad when they met last took a sweet revenge beating Kyles Of Bute convincingly to win the 2011 edition of The Kakatiya Cup. For the young and handsome trainer, Neil Darashah, this victory will always remain close to his heart as this is the first win for him at a track outside his home state of Karnataka. An elated Neil, in a chat with IndiaRace, said, “His second to Sirono, at Bangalore in the hands of an apprentice was eye-catching and my fellow was peaking right. P.S. and I were optimistic of turning the tables over ‘Kyles’ and we are really happy that we did.”

Setting out on a start-to-finish bid, Successor always had the upper hand while beating the rest by an overwhelming four lengths. Mark Gallagher was in full flow on Kyles Of Bute but a second was all he could manage.

Jockey P.S. Chouhan rode Young Soldier (Hymn-Spirit Of Patxi) to victory in the Sri. S. Ramakrishnam Raju Memorial Cup, for horses in the highest category. In a fast run race, where the first three placed horses clocked under a minute, Young Soldier set a new course record over the five-furlong distance. Dancing Touch and Zycon finished second and third respectively.

Jockey Mark Gallagher showed his brilliance while riding Guiding Light (Itaquere Power-Courbette) to victory in The Rock Of Gibraltar Cup. The public rage Elzaam was sent into the race as an unbeatable ‘odds-on’ favourite. Imran Khan tried to run away with a start-to-finish effort over the mile trip, establishing a big lead on the straight but Mark got Guiding Light to accelerate tremendously to get the race virtually on the last stride.

River Side (Epicentre-First Wave) moved from a third position on the straight to whiz past the leader Mukhtar, in the King’s Crown Plate, for maiden horses. Play The Music finished second while Golden Adagio started to pick up speed late and pushed Mukhtar out of the money.

R.H. Sequeira’s Pygmalion (Case Law-Windermere Star) set out in front and shifted gears when challenged by Silver Liner, to win the higher division of The Tungabhadra Cup. Prasad Raju’s Aarohan (Emerald Cat-Cordon Rose) made rapid progress to get the better of Steel Breaker by half a length, in the lower division.

Cannon Vision and One One One broke away from the rest of the field and went stride for stride for a short distance on the straight, in the lower division of The Dinky Do Plate. Cannon Vision (Stavros-Romanza) surged ahead to win by two lengths but had to get her victory ratified in the Steward’s room as the jockey of One One One lodged an objection for squeezing him and coming in sharply 150 metres from home.

Al-Jabal (Hammerstein-Classic Flight) covered a big leeway to get the better of Anemometer, in the higher division. Forest Flame was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

L.V.R. Deshmukh’s Dixie Bell (Mudeer-Chelsea) took up the running very early in the race and made every post a winning one, in The Illustrious Reign Plate. Glorious Bay and Pythagoras rushed towards Dixie Bell late to finish second and third respectively.
