Chief Minister's Cup Presentation Winner Vanquish

Rashid Byramji's Vanquish produced a sparkling gallop in the final furlong to stun a quality field in The Chief Minister's Trophy, the feature event in Saturday's race card at Bangalore. This terms race over a mile and a quarter attracted top class horses like Arabian Knight, Southern Empire, Noble Prince and Wonder Smile, who amongst themselves had won numerous Classic's all over the country. They were automatically allotted the top weights in this race. Darius Byramji decided to use this opportunity as a lead up to the Winter Derby, and entered Archipenko at the bottom of the scales. He was the only four year old in a small field of seven starters. Noble Prince was an obvious first choice to lift this prestigious trophy. He had beaten horses like Alekona and Diego Rivera in summer, and that too ,after conceding weight to them. The only question in the mind of his supporters was about his fitness. He was reappearing after a break of more than six months. The paddock parade dispelled all their worries, as the big made Noble Prince was produced in fine shape. The other one to catch the eye was Arabian Knight. The bookmakers installed Noble Prince as a marginal favourite ahead of Southern Empire and Arabian Knight. Archipenko was available at 5's while you could write your own card on the other three. The race was run at a fast pace as Azureus and Wonder Smile were made to do the hard work ahead of their more illustrios stablemates Archipenko and Southern Empire. Vanquish was racing in third place while Arabian Knight was cruising by his side. Southern Empire and Noble Prince raced next with Archipenko bringing up the rear. The order remained exactly the same as they swung homewards. The front runners shot their bolt at this stage, and the ones at the back began to move forward. Saleem Golam ridden Vanquish emerged as the new leader with a slender advantage ahead of Arabian Knight in the centre and Noble Prince on the wide outside. While Arabian Knight dropped out of the fray, Noble Prince essayed his challenge near the distance post. Vanquish was in no mood to relent and was seen to be responding brilliantly to his jockeys urgings. The pair of them passed the winning post in a smart timing of 2 mins 4 secs. Noble Prince was a game second while Arabian knight finished a tame third. Archipenko plodded on to finish fourth. Noble Prince has scope to improve after this run, and should benefit from this lung-opener.
