There was a huge sigh of relief at The Bangalore Turf Club when it was announced that the Hyderabad Race Club had agreed to loan an adequate quantity of "Vaccine" to The BTC, and help them in fighting the Equine Influenza menace that has struck many race clubs in the country. The HRC had imported this product and had vaccinated the horses stabled in their premises on Wednesday. Indiarace spoke to trainer Shehzad Abbas in Hyderabad yesterday, and he informed us that “the horses are doing well post-vaccination and are back on track. They are well rested and absolutely fresh after this excercise." The efforts and foresight of the HRC authorities is commendable, and we are likely to see a resumption of their racing over the coming weekend. Bangalore Turf Club is planning to commence a similar exercise on Sunday. The Club shall cancel the racing scheduled for next Friday and Saturday (19th and 20th December), and in all probability continue with the announced programme thereafter. The Club has successfully completed more than a third of the season, by implementing certain procedures which have helped in avoiding this disease from entering their premises. Equine Influenza has entered The Mysore Race Club, Kunigal Stud Farm and a few small "Tonga" stables in Bangalore city. It goes to the credit of the Managing Committee at The BTC, that racegoers all over the country have been able to watch racing action at this centre.
