Cockney Rebel and Olivier Peslier complete English-Irish Guineas double

Cockney Rebel was the 6-4 favorite in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh in Ireland on Saturday and he became only the sixth horse to complete the English-Irish 2000 Guineas double. In the hands of Olivier Peslier, Cockney Rebel was fourth early, improved to be third, assumed command at the quarter pole and ran on resolutely to beat back a determined bid from Creachadoir and jockey Kevin Manning. Taking third was He's A Decoy, Mick Kinane up,.Duke Of Marmalade, receiving a lot of support in the betting ring in the minutes before the race, was in argument three furlongs from home and weakened late to finish fourth, Seamus Heffernan up.

Twelve ran. Excellent Art was a course scratch. The time was 1 36.1 for the straight mile. The turf course was firm. The winning margin was a length. Cockney Rebel's share of the purse was 151,689 (British) pounds.

"He's a legend. He is the most serious racehorse I have ever seen. He can go longer. We are on to Royal Ascot for the St James Palace Stakes. The Breeders' Cup mile is on the agenda, "said, Geoff Huffer, Cockney Rebel's trainer.

Olivier Peslier was restrained in his adulation. "Nobody can be sure about a horse race but I was very confident. He (Cockney Rebel) was so impressive at Newmarket (in the 2000 Guineas) that I knew he would be much better today. When challenged, he found more."

Cockney Rebel gave Olivier Peslier his third win in the Irish 2000 Guineas. Peslier won with Desert Prince in 1998 and with Saffron Walden in 1999.

Creachadoir, second in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains in Paris two weeks ago, had another heart-warming effort. Held up early, Creachadoir joined issue with the winner two furlongs out only to find Cockney Rebel in no mood to yield.

Frankie Dettori fell off his mount, Fort Amhurst, at Goodwood Race Course in England on Friday. Thirty five minutes later, Dettori was aboard Jamboretta to win the next race. He gave up his last ride of the day.

"I bruised my knee and shoulder. I am very sore. It could have been more serious. I'll be ready for the Epsom meeting next week,' Frankie Dettori stated.

Dettori missed out a ride on Tobosa who won a 100,000-pound race on Saturday at Haydock Park. Michael Hills was the rider.

Dettori is expected to resume riding on Tuesday. He is to partner Authorized, the 11-10 favorite, in the Epsom Derby, a race that he is yet to win, on Saturday,
