Finsceal Beo and Sander Camillo face off in Guineas
By Tom Krish | 06 May 2007 |
The English 1000 Guineas will be run at Newmarket on Sunday. It is the third race in the seven-event card. Post time is 3 10 P M London time. It will be 7 40 P M on Sunday in India. The race is worth 198,730 pounds to the winner.
Twenty three fillies, three year-olds, go postward. It is a straight mile. Fast ground and dry conditions are predicted.
The 11-8 favorite is Finsceal Beo. Trained by Jim Bolger whose Teofilo was withdrawn from the 2000 Guineas, Finsceal Beo makes her 2007 reappearance. She was a going-away winner in the Prix Marcel Boussac-Criterium at Longchamp on Arc Day last year. She ended her freshman campaign with a
convincing win in Newmarket's Rockfel Stakes two weeks later. She is in fine fettle. She likes the Newmarket course. Kevin Manning is the rider.
Sander Camillo, a Jeremy Noseda-trained filly, is a serious contender. An impressive winner in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, She repeated in the Nell Gwyn Stakes. In her sophomore debut, she was beaten in the Chippenham Lodge Stakes at Newmarket. Trainer Noseda has expressed the opinion that his filly will be fitter for the Guineas. Frankie Dettori is the jockey.
Four French riders cross the channel to ride in the 2000 Guineas. Christophe Lemaire, Christophe Soumillon, Olivier Peslier and Stephen Pasquier have mounts.
Here's a note on Ryan Moore. Fans in India will recall that Ryan Moore rode in Mumbai in February. The 2006 British champion jockey had a fall in mid-March at Lingfield, an all-weather track. He is on the mend. "I am not in pain but I am not ready to return. No date has been set," Moore has said.
The British bookmakers are offering 2-5 on Jamie Spencer to win the English title this year. Neil Callan is 6-1 and Ryan Moore, yet to leave the starting gare, is at 7-1.
