Padmanabhan trained Dancing Highness showed a clean pair of heels to her rivals as she sped away with The Karnataka Sub-Area Cup, the feature event in Saturday's race card at Bangalore. The result was a surprise for many who thought that this talented filly lacked the class to tackle a well represented field of horses rated 80 and above at this centre. As a three year old, Dancing Highness had performed creditably and it was expected that she would show out in the regional classics during winter. Because of a minor setback in training, she was raced sparingly thereafter. Most of her contemporaries were picking up important events all over the country ,while she was biding her time. She showed some sort of form when she won a race during the last weekend of the winter season. Her last start third was indicative of her readiness to strike. While her class was never in doubt, it was her racing form which prompted the bookmakers on Saturday to offer the generous odds of 5/1 against her to lift this beautiful trophy. There was huge support for the Ganapathy trained Wonder Smile , but today , she was no match to the eventual winner . Wayne Smith took Dancing Highness to the front and controlled the pace beautifully. She was joined by Elusive Study on her outside while Arturo, Jersey Pride, Wonder Smile and Jet Fire followed at a respectable distance. The order remained more or less the same as the race came to a boil. Dancing Highness quickened nicely and kept going while a minor drama was unfolding behind her. Prakash was seen struggling to evoke an effort from Wonder Smile, but she dropped through the bunch and finished in the ruck. Lava came from the tail-end of the packed field and finished an impressive second. Jet Fire got caught in a traffic jam before Vinod Shinde could extricate him, and made a late dash to take the third spot ahead of Arturo. Elusive Study held on to finish a close fifth. Padmanabhan has to be complimented for nursing Dancing Highness into such good shape. The winner can be supported confidently when she faces a similar set of horses in the future. Saturday was a dream day for jockey Suraj Narredu. He thrilled his fans with a superb display of horsemanship whilst scoring a treble during the afternoon. More importantly, all his victories were hard fought and were gained through sheer perseverence. All three successes were achieved near the winning post. It all started with the Darius trained Succeeding Star. This even money horse seemed to be beaten as Chelsy Dancer hit the front and looked like a winner. Suraj did not give up and kept urging his mount till he got a response from him. Succeding Star got up in the last couple of strides and nailed Chelsy Dancer at the post. One finished on to be third. The very next race saw the same combination of Darius and Suraj combine again to score with Lightnin Blues. After many consistent efforts, Lightnin Blues finally entered the winner's enclosure. He kicked on gamely to down the colours of the front-running Ballerina Girl. The two market fancies, Proof Of Treasure and Prayatna, were unable to handle their winning penalties and let down their supporters. Suraj achieved the coveted treble while riding for his father. Satish Narredu trained Thunders Roar had run a good third in his last outing. His trainer thought that he was tending to loaf in that particular run ,and therefore decided to put blinkers on him. This move seemed to work well for the connections, as Thunders Roar ran a very matured race today. He settled nicely behind Copertina and Clouseau, and took charge in the last two furlongs of the race. Thunders Roar was challenged strongly by The Last Samurai ,and the two of them fought out for a while before Suraj was able to goad the former to put his neck in front at the all important end. Suraj was already leading the jockeys tally at the start of the day, and in his present form, seems to have a realistic chance of winning the seasonal championship. The connections of Undue were in for a shock when their charge finished a poor fifth in his third career start. His impressive victory on the fillies day had spurred them to campaign him in quick succession and try and guage his staying capabilities. It appears that they wanted to run him in the Derby. He was odds-on to win this race today, but flopped miserably and finished about 25 lengths behind Noble View. Prakash rode a copybook race on the winner and went away from a hard ridden Caprioska. An announcement confirmed that Undue had sprained a fetlock during the race and had returned lame. He needs to be rested for a while. The fashionably bred Timeless Treasure (Razeen-Cico Park), was touted as a certainty in the day's card. There was one-sided support for this gelding as he was backed down to 70/100. Gnaneshwar was keen to take an advantageous position, and in doing so, had to niggle his horse in the early stages of the race. He skirted the frontrunners and produced him in the centre of the track as the field entered the straight. He pulled out the stick and did not get the desired result from this horse. The result of his decision to put away the stick proved to be fruitful as Timeless Treasure responded to his pushing and went away for an easy victory. This horse is still a bit immature, and it will be a while before he climbs higher in the ratings. Conceptual, Spark Of Gold and Stormy River finished in close order. Conceptual has a lot of scope for improvement, and should be backed confidently in his next start The last race of the day turned out to be an anti-climax, as four unfancied horses filled the frame and knocked out the exacta pool hunters. You Beauty was the obvious early morning favourite and remained so till race time. A sudden flow of money in the direction of Touch Of Magic saw the two of them share favouritism as the horses were being loaded into the gates. You Beauty was a bit fractious and unseated her rider. Jockey S John was seen limping for a while, before he decided to remount and take part in the race. The lead in this race changed many times before Mallesh Narredu pushed Burning Ambitions to the front and kept him going to win ahead of Track Wonder, Royal Filly and Anna Fleetwood. The two market leaders were a part of the beaten brigade. Satish Narredu completed a double with this winner, and shared the day's training honours with Darius Byramji.
