Made of Gold Makes a Golden Run for Derby

By Parjanya | 10 Jan 2012 | DELHI

Made of Gold made a golden run for the last blue rebind - The North India Derby, of the season at the Delhi Race Club on Tuesday. The victory of the chestnut gelding put the saddler Aleem Khan on cloud nine as he was sidelined for a couple of weeks and his suspension just came to end on the "D" Day. He, later, went on to share a brace each with jockey Chhotu Singh Jodha. Interestingly, it was back to back Derby double after Real Smasher (2011) for the owners Rajesh Sahgal & Sultan Singh, trainer Aleem Khan and jockey B Prakash.

The son of Ontario and Forest Maid had put on so much weight during the previous seasn that he would trot down almost thrice a day mostly under the guidance of jockey-turned-Rajinder. He ran only twice and that too off the board. However, a three month break between the calendars helped him to improve leaps and bounds and eventually went on to emerge victorious in two races before finishing second to Don't You Dare in class three. However, he was not made to sweat in the 2000 Guineas finishing easy fourth behind Shershah.

Sitting fourth behind King of Lords, Truculent Star and Shershah in the early furlong of the Mile trip, the chestnut was only able to improve a place til the final furlong. As soon as the trio came to a head, Shershah slightly shifted out and awaiting for such an opportunity, B Prakash forced the beautiful galloper to sneak through to dominate the last 100m. Equal Luxury, who was not able to figure on the board in the second classic, came with a late burst of speed to pip King of Lords for the runner-up berth. Shershah ran fourth.

Deepak Kalra-trained Whiff of Money justified the top billing by making every post a wining one in the upper division of the Qutub Minar Plate, which was the opening event of the day. She should complete an encore. Perfect Affect, who finished second, should make amends. Chandrapal Singh's Master Right late Ashwa Panchhi followed the suit of Whiff of Money in the lower division of the plate. Master Piece, who was observed to be closing-in the gap inside the distance post, should shed her maiden status.

S P Singh's charge Nizbati Queen earned her corn bill at nourishing odds in wire to wire attempt in the Galloping acres stud Farm cup. The daughter of Hammerstein and Queen of The world has the stamina to earn more laurels for her connections provided for.  Crusoe, Illustrate and Master Source have the ability to raise a winning gallop soon. The run of Master Messi, who was the favourite and finished close fifth, is best ignored.

Magan Singh's Flying Majesty kept her head aloft in a three-way for the Delhi Race Club President Cup over five furlongs. The daughter of Majestic Bay, who was also the local top class runner before retiring to the stud, led from the front. Shocking Star (61.5 kilos) and Subh Shubh (64 kilos) found the massive weight stopper and fell short by a whisker.

Red Reef, who has not been able to attain his form, finished fourth. Aleem's Aali Janab found his winning shoes in the senior division of the R P Vohra Memorial Cup. Show on, who ran second, should raise a winning gallop. Game of Talent, who finished third, should meet with success upto the mile. The junior division of the plate saw a nail biting finish between Kohinoor Empire and Awesome. The former prevailed by getting a nostril better of the latter.
