Laxman Singh was the happiest man on the day, making it one-two, in the race instituted in memory of his grandfather, Jockey Purtu Singh Parmar. Vijays Dhara (Tirol-Madamoiselle) pulled off a facile victory, while stable companion Frontline took the runner-up berth, in the 2200 metres grueling trip. Vijays Dhara who was backed to the exclusion of the other runners, preferred to let Frontline set the pace and the two went that way till the final bend. On entering the straight, Vijays Dhara was reminded of his task by Culhane and the 4 year old moved alongside Frontline. The two galloped together from the top of the straight and Vijays Dhara eventually travelled the better inside the last 100 m to finish a length ahead of Frontline.

L.D’Silva trained Art Dealer (Ontario-Giovane Signora) covered up plenty of ground on the home stretch, to beat Major Luck on the post. Major Luck had established a big lead of over five lengths near the distance post and Art Dealer was still in third, two lengths behind Rohini Star. Apprentice Kuldeep Singh went for the stick on Art Dealer and the 4 year old gelding started to get stronger towards the finish and snatched the race from Major Luck. Rohini Star ended up third ahead of the favourite Bound For Glory.

Trainer Sk.Kassam and jockey Satish Nayak teamed up to complete a double through Glorious View and Santro. Glorious View (Placerville-Glorious Fantasy) galloped to a pillar to post victory in the higher division of the Gangothri Plate, a 5 ½ furlongs dash for maiden 3 year olds. Lona Dona warmed up late but could only beat Kohinoor Destiny for the runner-up berth.

Santro (Mischevious Music-Angeles) picked up speed despite hanging in, on the home stretch and sped past the front running Buck Knife, with a furlong left in the higher division of the Adler Plate. Chayanandan and Princess Jaanu covered plenty of ground from the rear, towards the last 100 metres but could not get the better of Santro and finished second and third respectively. Peasgus Belle and Indian Brave Heart were permitted to be withdrawn from the race.

M.V.Narayana Rao trained Carson Troy (Hymn-Apache Star) who had not shown any form in his last five runs, suddenly found foot, to race away with the lower division, with a start to finish gallop. Welcome Baby and Caladium were finishing on fast towards the closing stages but found it tuff to beat Carson Troy and finished second and third respectively.

T.Srinagesh’s Madame’s Madame (Sharp Attack-Adams Madame) moved swiftly from outward draw at start and settled beautifully behind the pace setting Symbol of Beauty, in the lower division of the Gangothri Plate. The two got down to fight the last 300 metres and the stronger finish of P.S.Chouhan enabled Madame’s Madame to surge ahead, in the final 50 metres. The favourite Crimson Look was hard pressed inside the last 200 metres but just could not get to the fighting duo in front and finished third.

The day started off with Zoheb Sheikh’s Jaz Elle (Rambus Gil Vernet) being ridden by Imran Khan to a big win in the higher division of the Mossy Banks Plate. Jaz Elle who had stayed a maiden after 13 attempts, produced a splendid gallop, moving into the final furlong, to draw away by a clear five lengths from the nearest challenge. Racing in about sixth position as the field traversed the final bend, Jaz Elle was guided to take a clear path, widest of all and when Imran asked for an effort, the filly responded readily to justify the short price.

Kareena (Royal Gladiator-Fortified) from K.V.Srinivas’s stable pulled off a last stride win over Refinement, in the lower division, the concluding race of the day. Kareena in fact looked good on top of the straight but was badly hemmed up for room and jockey A.Ramana had to pull her out to given a clear run. In the meantime Refinement had taken charge and had built up a good lead of about three lengths. Kareena moved towards Refinement with a resolute gallop and snatched the race on the post.
